I wanted to thank Rvr for providing the Russian press version of items occuring in the world.  I might not agree with his opinions or those of their press but at least it provides a better understanding of how they are being told events are unfolding.  It also explains some of the attitudes of Elen and others as well.

The latest article he provided was a good example.  Reading it gave me 2 questions the first is why do they include the US as a country likely to lobby against it when we have similiar export restrictions on arms?

The second one is yet another example of how to use numbers to illustrate your point.  The article makes a point that the US is the global leader in arms sales in dollars which I don't dispute.  However US systems typically cost 5-10 times as much as Russian items do so if you were to compare sales in terms of actual units capable of causing harm then we're on par with each other.

The UN light weapons "law" that they want passed would make it illegal to sell or give weapons to any revolutionary/opposition group.

According to folks who have really looked at the proposals that the UN keeps flogging around, it would have been illegal to provide weapons to the French Resistance, the contras, anyone not the gov't. The UN proposals are like an "incumbancy protection act" for dictators and wanna-be police states.

You mean like the rebel groups that were against the US supported police state in El Salvador?
