Phone issues
« on: November 17, 2010, 06:10:01 AM »
What is the phone service like in the Ukraine? I have tried to get through to this lady for about a week with no success. Sometimes it rings, sometimes it has a "cannot be reached" type message.

Are these phone problems normal?

No they're not normal. Chances are if you were given the correct number, transposed it correctly and dialed correctly, 9 of 10 times it goes through.

Are you still able to communicate with her other ways? email?

It depends on which service you use. I remember that at times Skype would not be able to reach or make a bad connection, while the normal land line would not have a problem.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

I have been communicating with the lady for about six weeks. We have had quite a few phone conversations over time. There was a time frame of about a week in a half when I couldn't get through to her phone and she never sent an email. She apologised for this due to phone difficulties and she borrowed her mothers phone.

Contact was great again until I phoned her to say that I bought the tickets for the flight to see her. She sent an email that night and I have not heard from her since. That was a week ago. I did lie about buying the tickets as I was waiting for my plane flight money to clear into my paypal account. Im not going to purchase them until I hear from her. The only time I can get off work is December-January, so time is running very short in regards to preparing for the trip.

She sounds genuine on the phone but the no contact thing is bugging me.

She has not replied to my emails or text messages. The phone either has the dreaded "cannot be reached" message or it has an unusual creaky ringtone.

Should I wait or move on?

You have no relationship with her. Make contacts with other ladies. Maybe she'll come back with a reasonable excuse, maybe not but you shouldn't put your life on hold for someone that disappeared.

Sometimes the international phone system isn't reliable and can't quit working for weeks or months. It's happened to me. A ringtone that sounds different with no answer is a good indicator that something changed fo rhte worse. If you establish contact with the lady again, come up with a solution to prevent loss of contact for more than a few days. Figure out where and how often she can get to a computer and the various phone numbers you can contact her on. If she likes you as much as you like her, she wouldn't want to be out of contact with you for more than a few days either.

Sorry, but this does not sound good. A woman who is expecting a guy to come visit her should not be out of touch for a week or more unless she had prior commitments and then she should have told you. When I was talking to a woman, she said that she was going on vacation and would be out of phone range for a week. she then called when she returned. To just disappear at a week at a time,,, no reason, no calls, no text, no emails, nothing..sorry, would give me a bad feeling.

Personally, I would be upfront and tell her that her disappearances are bothering you and maybe some more conversations are in order before you drop a few thou to go and see her. And if you do get on a plane, I would NOT go without a back up plan.

Those problems have been resolved. She used her own phone again for a while and it did not work. She will be using her mothers phone for a while now. Things are good now with daily contact.
