Sevastopol
« on: April 24, 2011, 04:32:59 AM »
I live only 3.5 hours from Kyiv.
I am able to take weekends and weeks here and there most months.

Sevastopol….

This trip was just intended to be, a meet friends, have a week off work kinda deal.
Arrived Kyiv, Collected bags, took the 400 metre walk to Domestic flights.
Had good connections. Only 2 hours between flights.
Arrived Simferopol 10pm Friday night.
Grabbed my pre arranged cab.

Taxi

I pay 330 grivna each way. From Simferopol to Sevastopol.
He is great guy with large, modern Skoda superb, very comfortable.

Back to it..

Sitting in Cab, made a few calls. Presto, pizza and wine will arrive at my apartment 10 minutes after me. 11.45pm

Maximus Pizza.
The only pizza delivery,to my knowledge. In Sevastopol
also wine, champagne, OJ, many things available.
and can order through site as well
so language is not problem really

Unless you have been to Sevastopol before. Renting an apartment online can be ,hit or miss in quality.
Definitely go with recommendations.

The apartment I chose for this week was a large Studio owned, by an Englishman, which I now choose to call my friend.
He’s on here somewhere.. (Hey dude))

It has all I need, couch, big double bed,  large kitchen area, Balcony and Bathroom.

Talking to a good friend that night, a local Dj in Sev.
General stuff.
What I was going to do. When are we going out for beers etc..

Then he pops it to me , saying.
You need to meet a friend of mine…
And already knowing many of his friends already, I was intrigued..

Saturday..

Slept late, woke with coffee.
Showered.
Went to meet Tia…

I like Sevastopol city centre.
It’s a nice small centre, easy to find your way around your first time there.
Food and shops and Harbour all closely packed together.

Food.

There are many places to eat in the centre.

To name a few I like, Madam Shoko, Q-Bar, Steak House, Kofein is ok.
Barkas fish house serves great food on the harbour.

As I have never written anything like this before. Dive in and let me know what’s missing.

Stolipin is a great restaurant. But its not really in the city centre. But has great food and atmosphere.
Plus pool and Russian billiards upstairs.

Grabbed my pre arranged cab.

Would be good to see a name and phone number.  Others may wish to pre arrange a ride in future !!   :)

Your last line does not follow from the previous lines.  How do the previous lines lead to the conclusion that 'language is not problem really?'

You seem to be leaving out something very relevant:  Like maybe you speak Russian or the Pizza place has English speakers.

The apartment I chose for this week was a large Studio owned, by an Englishman, which I now choose to call my friend.
He’s on here somewhere.. (Hey dude))

Again, name and phone would be helpful for those who might want to rent in future.  The Englishman would probably be happy also.   :)

Talking to a good friend that night, a local Dj in Sev.

The 'local' word sort of implies you know Russian.

Why is it relevant if you do or do not know Russian?  Very simple.
When someone writes about what they were able to do in a particular city, it is important for readers to know how they did it.  If the reader knows that the writer is fluent in the local language and he/she (the reader) is not, the reader then can understand that he can't necessarily aspire to having the same carefree good time in that city . . . at least from the get-go, without having some native speakers (hopefully of the opposite sex) to guide them around.

A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

1. he does not speak english well. but great service. if anyone needs or wants his service contact me. easy to organise.
2. i meant if you have internet access, you can order everything online. and pay,and it is delivered to your door. so no conversation required.
3. i do speak english, swedish and serbian, my russian is passable.
4. there will always be someone that speaks enough english to take your order.
5. as for posting names and numbers of business, i did not know what is accepted here. as advertising. different forums different rules etc
6.  i made Sevastopol,my second home.and know people there. use of russian is of course a definate. but if you are there to meet a woman, i presumed people would make some effort to know some russian.
7. if you are lucky enough to have a guide of female nature in Sevastopol. everything will be great.
8. if you need one .. i could introduce you. the rest would be up to you.
9. i believe the city is small enough to have a carefree time there without Language.mostly they speak english, some to a point, some better than native english speakers.

again, this is my first time to post in this detail.
so thanks again for any questioning of how i come across in my writing.

330 grivna is a very good rate from Sim to Sevastopol.  I would really like to have this man's contact info if you have it as I may be taking a Russian lady from eastern Ukraine down to Sevastopol.  thanks for all of the other recommendations on restaurants!!
