How to marry in Moscow with 14 days or less !
« on: December 10, 2010, 05:37:26 PM »
Like the title shows, how do i marry a girl in moscow in 14 days or less. Is it even possible  ?

For all who have not seen my other thread, here is  " http://www.russianwomendiscussion.com/index.php?topic=11908.25 "

So since my girl was denied her visa to Canada the plan has now changed. I'm going out to marry her in moscow.  We sort of developed a plan to get things moving. I am really hoping it can be done in 14 days. I leave for moscow on December 18. I arrive in moscow on Sunday the 19. And i leave January 1 back to Canada. That gives me 14 days to take care of business. But really only 10 working days.

On Sunday the 19 i arrive in Moscow.
I will arrive at my hotel and have them register my visa.
My fiance will arrive in moscow later that night in moscow
Monday morning on the 20Th we will go to the Canadian embassy and get this marriage letter.

The same day i hope i can go to the ministry of foreign affairs and bribe them to rush process my letter and have it legalized.

While the letter is being legalized i will go get my passport translated on Tuesday  the 21st .

I think the latest i should get my letter back from the ministry is the 27 if they do not accept as bribe.

On the 27 i should be able to go to a Zaggs registry and get married with this  legalised letter and my translated passport i think. yes no ?

So that is my plan anyways. If anyone has any tips or if you can offer any constructive information that would be very much welcomed.

My fiance just phoned a zaggs office in moscow and they told her that the documents for the marriage must be with them for something like one month before the marriage can be processed. Is this true ? I have never heard of this one month waiting time. ???

Might want to review the post here and rest of that thread.

When we married in RU, there was a waiting period, but were able to have it waived for certain reasons..  Might still be doable, but would totally depend on ZAGS.

Even if doable, question is how CA immigration officials will react to a tourist visa denial then quick turnaround marriage..

Did you originally plan immigration fraud with the tourist visa? It's a catch-22 question of course but one your immigration officials will be wondering about.

Sometimes it's a good idea to step back a bit and not try to rush things for wrong reasons.   You may want to get a professional opinion.

How about getting your passport translated before you go. It would be one less thing for you to do while you are there. I will also add, good luck, I hope that things work out for you.

14 days sounds pretty brazen but I've heard that it's been done. That begs the question as to why do you need it done that quickly? If it isn't completed in 14 days are you prepared to stay longer? If I'm not mistaken you can have passport translated before you go and get the non impediment document in process and retrieved at the Canadian embassy in Moscow. I do not know for about the Zags in Moscow but as a general rule, money does talk. They have the ability to make it happen fast or make you wait the duration.

Well, when you do figure it out, be sure to get in touch with Guthy Renker so you can put out a late night infomercial.  :P

Good luck!

I do not know for about the Zags in Moscow but as a general rule, money does talk. They have the ability to make it happen fast or make you wait the duration.

Back in 2002 when I got married in Russia there was a 31 day wait period after the application was made at ZAGS. The application at ZAGS could only come after a sworn affidavit that I was free to marry was done at the US embassy, had my birth certificate or divorce papers (I forget which) apostiled stamped at the Department of state at my state capital and some document from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs department which was located off the lobby of a bank. There was a bunch of translation and various stamps of the passport, birth certificate and divorce papers done in Russia. Of course Canada would have other versions of all of this. Anyway the M.F.A wouldn't agree to a speed up for a fee so it was a wait of about a week for their document before I could get the ball rolling at ZAGS. ZAGS can speed things up from the 31 day wait period providing you give them reason to do so such as a letter from your employer stating you have limited vacation time.  Of course this is just to give them cover for the bribe. Of course the excuse letter can be ignored if you give them enough money. The bribe is best initiated from someone (Russian) who has some inside connections at ZAGS such as a local marriage agency owner or maybe the parents of the bride to plead the case. Of course the former will need to be paid to for this service. Overall all this nonsense should give one pause to consider what he is getting into. I know one guy got this all done in one week. That is he came to Russia all prepared with the documents to marry, met his fiancee for the first time waiting for him at the airport and together they did all the Russian stuff including marriage and applying for her visa in one week. She became pregnant one month after she got here.

A guy should worry if his fiancee is pushing for expedited service.

Well, my visa is only good for 14 days. I cannot leave my work for any longer than that also. I really think i have no time to get my passport translated in canada. I do not think it will interfere with the speed of everything unless the ministry of foreign affairs requires the translated passport. I think only zaggs requires the translation.

Yeah, thanks for that. I will do my best to work some bribes. How much you think would be enough to motivate zaggs. 500 US ? Seriously i think it would be worth not having to return to russia in 3 months.  And if i do not get the marrige done on this trip i will have to return within 90 days because the letter i get from my embassy is only valid for 90 days.

Keep in mind many Russian businesses and government offices come to a stand still at this time of year. Some shut down for 2 weeks during the holidays.

To the OP, as I understand the story thus far is as follows...

You are 27, and she is 19
You met her while in St. Petersburg for 1 month in April, and subsequently went on a 3 week trip around Russia
She's never left the CIS
Her tourist visa to Canada was recently denied
and now you're planning on marrying, and then applying for a spousal visa for Canada

Are you sure you each want to make a lifetime commitment to marry someone you've only met once (albeit for 6+ weeks)?
What changed between the time you submitted the tourist visa, when you weren't engaged, and your subsequent decision to marry?

I trust that you understand that even once you submit your spousal visa application, you will likely still be facing a wait of perhaps 1 full year?
Also, where in Alberta do you live? I've been to St.Petersburg, and it has similar qualities to a city like Montreal or Toronto, but is very, very different for a 19 yr old when compared to Alberta (even Edmonton or Calgary)

My advice is to slow it down a bit, visit her a few more times (every 3 months or so?), give her some time to learn English better, and perhaps take a trip to a foreign country or two to flesh out her passport.

I realize that my questions comments are probably moot, as I understand that you're planning on getting married in a week, but I put them out there anyway.  My 2 cents.

Yes that is true, when we planed to marry in Moscow   I had to submit documents 2 months before our marriage date.Sorry off topic! why when i type it would not let me see what am i typing it is so uncomfortable ,  how to fix this?

My friend, today one of the quickest ways to land in a Russian prison is to attempt to walk into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs while waving money around and asking about a hurry up marriage ceremony. An equally quick way would be to do the same thing at the Ministry of the Interior.

At ZAGS, go easy there too. Your lady can make arrangements and they'll bend the rules for you without a bribe. Why pay for something you don't need to pay for? There are exceptions for situations just like yours if you slow down and have your lady ask politely.

Your Embassy will take care of the non-impediment letter and the legalizations of which you speak (Notary and Apostille) are done off site from ZAGS. There is nothing for ZAGS to rush, it is you who will do the rushing around to take the documents from one place to another.

In case you haven't heard, Russia is on a major campaign to stamp out corruption and bribing someone is quickly becoming a very risky proposition for you, and for the person who has to decide whether your bribe is worth jail time.

Like most civilized courtries you can pay, legitimately, for expedited service on documents but forget about offering bribes--likely one would be unnecessary anyway.

epcorket,  how did things go?  My sponsorship is currently in Moscow awaiting PR status. I'm hoping it'll be ready by this summer, her landing in the Peg in January isn't something I want as a first impression.  ;D
