Acronyms / Dictionary
« on: February 18, 2006, 12:21:33 PM »
If this is a duplicate/repost, my bad, couldn't find the previous post(s). Came across the original list on another board, (thanks garyc), and wish I'd seen them here earlier.  Figured someone else might benefit from these.  I've already PM'ed a few members asking the obvious newbie acronym questions.  No doubt there are more that aren't here....  I left off the obvious ones that relate to internet communication, (emoticons, RTFM, ROFLMAO, Troll, etc.)

AG - agency girl
AM -   American Man
AWeb - anastasiaweb.com  (fubar)
AOS -    Adjustment Of Status
AP -    Advance Parole - travel document for K-1 recipients
Agency -    A company which introduces women to you in exchange for a fee.
AW -   American Woman
BW - Belarusian Woman
BV - Business Visa
CIS - Commonwealth of Independent States
DOS - Department of State
DV -   Domestic violence
EAD -   Employment Authorization Document - work permit
FSU -   Former Soviet Union
FSUW -  Former Soviet Union Woman (Russia or Ukraine)
FY -   Fat Yuri (a scammer posing as a FSUW)
FV - Fiancé Visa (see K1)
GCG -   Green Card Girl - Women who will marry any man for the opportunity to leave her country.
HRB/RLM - Hot Russian Brides/Russian Love Match  (.com respectively), same company
IMBRA/IMBA - International Marriage Broker Regulation Act (thread, see also)
K1 - Fiancé Visa
K3 - Married (in her country) visa
KW - Kazakhstan Woman
LTP/LP/LPA - Lifetime Partners agency (a *cough* PC *cough* Agency description)
LV - Latvian Woman
MOB -   Mail Order Bride (wiki, may also refer to agency; and there's really no such...)
NDA - Non-Disclosure Agreement
NOA -   Notice of Action
NVC -   National visa center - name checks
PP -   Pen Pal
RW -   Russian Woman
Romance Tour -   An event hosted by agencies, whereby you travel to Eastern Europe to meet the women they represent
TR   - Trip Report
TV - Tourist Visa
USCIS   - Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services
UW -   Ukrainian Woman
WOVO -   Write One Woman / Visit One Woman
WMVO -   Write Many Women / Visit One Woman
WMVM -   Write Many Women / Visit Many Women
WNVS -   Write No Women / Visit Some Women
WM -   Western Man

The other site also had "Tablets of Stone -   Rules to use in the process of finding a FSU woman".  Do we have any fixed posts (or 'sticky' posts), like that here?  I've come across a couple three that got my attention, that are good newbie primers......I reckon there are more newbie 'primers', or whatever you want to call them....

By the way, since this is the first thread I've started, just wanted to say I'm really grateful for you all sharing your experiences and dishing out solid advice from (sometimes tough) lessons learned, and for being direct.  Since I'm just starting out on this journey, this place has been a treasure trove of information.  Have been studying the threads here and trying to learn as much as possible.

Normally I would say Google is your friend.  However, these TLA's are a little tricky, and of course, unique to what we're doing.
