Best root beer I ever tried was out of Pennsylvania, Dad's. It had a reputation of superiority in the Northeast - and was almost as good straight from a cold bottle as it was in a frosted mug from the tap. Anybody ever try this one?

Pennsylvaina is pretty known for birtch beer, Utz chips, and amazing pretzels from Hanover.  They also have a fantasticly rare flavor from a local berry called "teaberry"  it tastes alot like spearemint (which I dont care for) but has less a bite and more creamy.  Ive found a company there that makes teaberry gum, and its a local delicacy to have teaberry icecream (I bring back tons of it when I visit relatives there).

Don't know what root beer is, but I love ginger beer and ginger ale and hate coke and Pepsi.

Vaughn,

Dad's is a great root beer!

Daknack,

You are probably too young to remember the "teaberry shuffle" which was a popular ad campaign back in the 60's(?).

Just to tie this back into RW, does anyone else's wife not flip over mint flavored chewing gums?

Right here in Phoenix we have:
http://www.popsoda.com/     I think they have 'Vernor's'

I like root beer!  In recent years, I've gravitated towards Dr. Pepper. Lara doesn't like soda and I generally do not drink it often. Too much sugar or worse- sugar substitutes.

I had kvas every day in Kyiv. It was fantastic. I recently bought a big plastic bottle of Monasterskiy Black Currant Kvas. Compared to the good stuff in Kyiv, it tastes way too simple and too sweet. Elen is right- it does contain some alcohol, not much. The tasty versions are extremely invigorating and as a delicious as a beer with a complex flavor. Unfortunately, Lara doesn't make kvas.

My wife strongly dislikes most of the chewing gums sold in the US.  The mint flavor ("Menthol") is too strong for her tastes.

I remember Dad's RB. It was right up there with the A&W that we would go to the drive in restaurant for. It was a HUGE treat for us to go to A&W for a root beer float.

Elena has found an addiction to cinnamon. Gum, candy, anything with cinnamon. Doesn't care much for the other gums though.

60's indeed, with Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass's "The Mexican  Shuffle" used as the theme song. Once fell flat on my popka attempting  the shuffle!

I don't drink much soda but I do enjoy the IBC brand root beer. When I was a child my family would have a soda delivery once a week by a local soda company. My hometown had two such companies. These companies died out in the eighties and I really did miss the root beer made by the one we used... Come to think of it they made all kinds of soda.. Strawberry (pink) , Lime (green), Pineapple (yellow), Cherry (red) are some of the ones I remember.

Was soda delivery common through out the US?

Not soda, but milk and dairy products used to be home delivered.  For a short time, there was even an orange juice company that delivered too.  There used to be more independent companies that manfactured and bottled sodas like Atlas and Town Club in the Detroit area, but I think the big companies have drove them out of business.
