Why do women have such a difficult time remembering their age?
« on: September 06, 2011, 04:33:01 PM »
Particularly those over the age of forty?

I contacted one woman who thought she was ten years younger than she actually was.

Another woman stated she was 48 on her profile.

When I expressed my concern that perhaps she had made a mistake, the following day I noticed that she had turned 79 overnight!

Men don't seem to have a problem remembering their age.

I suggest you peruse a concise little thread here, entitled "Life Changes ... Part Deux" for your answer. ;)

After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Because age changes every year, therefore they may have a hard time calculating it each time when asked. Some are bad in math, unfortunately. :)

On a more serious note, some sites have automatic counters for age, and some not. This may cause confusion. On Plentyoffish, I noticed similar things in male profiles. A profile shows one age figure that comes up in searches, and the profile text reads something like, 'and btw, I am not ** but ** years old. The system just made this figure, and sorry I cannot do anything about it!'.

CanadaMan, you probably have not looked through many male profiles, if you believe that men do not seem to have same problem.

My younger wife has no trouble remembering my age. Or reminding me.  :o

CanadaMan, you probably have not looked through many male profiles, if you believe that men do not seem to have same problem.

Of course this was mainly a tongue in cheek post, but I think there is a grain of truth to it.

The irony is that after conveniently 'forgetting' their
proper age the first thing they state in their profile is
they are looking for an honest gentleman.  :)

Lily, sure there are some sites that give you only one chance to enter your proper age; after that you can't change it. But you always have the option of either deleting the profile and starting afresh or stating somewhere in your profile that you made a 'mistake'.

As far as men's profiles, you are correct, I don't browse them. Are they just as prone to 'forget' their age too?

Forgive me if this is a universal, non sex-related phenomenon.

To make a profile, a new member has to enter either the current age figure, or date of birth. Therefore I don't think that they can 'forget' it.

Oh really? I've met plenty of men with exactly same memory problem.

Yes, of course they don't really forget their age, that's why I put it in quotes ('forget').
The website system dutifully keeps track of the age that was entered, it doesn't forget it.

I simply meant that many people conveniently 'forget' their proper age. :)

A little more about these two women.

The first one who forgot that she was actually 10 years older than the age she provided in her profile also 'forgot' to post current photos.
Her photos were 10 years old! I know because I met her.

The second one, who aged from 48 to 79 overnight when I suggested she might have made a mistake with her age on the site wrote the following to me:

"Women don't like to speak about the age. And men don't ask the woman about its age.
It is norm. It is respect for the woman.
And I think, thta you know about you.."   :)

I should lie about my age.  Women routinely swear that I am 14  :P

my profile (correct) was ripped off of a website,

sometimes with an incorrect  information including birthdate and age.. its the internet afterall.

Any way you look at it, no matter the age.....................
You had just better remember their birthday.
