Bringing the in-laws over
« on: March 24, 2006, 09:01:26 AM »
Anybody have any words of wisdom around bringing Mom and a Niece over to visit for a month this summer?

I know I need to write an invitation letter.  I've read that just stating that I will cover all expenses, and providing a bank statement will suffice.  I've also read that I need to provide AOS quality documentation (tax returns, statement of employment, etc.).

Any and all help appreciated!

Kevin

My wife's 22 year old son was just issued a 5 year multiple entry visa.  I didn't submit any type of invitation letter.  He didn't give any travel dates either.  Just said that he would be traveling to visit his mother and I in the future and gave my address etc..  He has traveled to Western Europe with his mother several times in the past and holds a shengen visa.  By the way his mom is still in Kiev.

Her mother is also planning on applying for a visa to come and visit us.

Philb -

Where is your wife's son coming from?  Russia?  Ukraine?

I hadn't heard of a 5-year multi-entry VISITOR visa, only business visas.  Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Kevin, although she's coming from Russia and not Ukraine, a lovely 23 year-old woman was just granted a visitor's visa by the American Embassy in Moscow. I had a little bit to do with the strategy - contact our friends in O'Fallon - they are elated about their daughter's impending visit, and the invitation wording was very key.

Vau-Gun,

I saw that mentioned on the YO list. Any possibility of posting  the wording? We're talking about Mama and possibly Sis (we're going to  ask the sister if she would be interested in coming over on a student  visa too). Any help with something that has actually worked with the  government would be most greatly appreciated!

Ken

P. S. Anytime with the photoshop. Want to see Elvira as an angel?  Ballerina? Dance hall girl? All I need is a good photo to start with....;)

I think I could hold my own on photoshop with any of you.  Here is a test.  I will attach a photo.  It was changed with Photoshop.   What was changed?

Well, I guess I did a good enough job that no one can figure it out or more likley no one gives a hoot.   I thought this might be interesting for someone who has never worked with photoshop or a good photo editing program.  Guys like Ken could do the same thing quickly and easily.  Programs like this are why when you do a visa they just look at photos as supporting evidence.  I could take photos of two people and put them together and then put them in front of the Kremlin, Big Ben or the Eifel tower.

When I started to write some gals again, I did not have very many photos of myself.  Usually I am the one taking the photos which means I am on the wrong side of the lens.  If I am in front of the camera it is usually someone elses camera and I never even see the photos.   I had some photos that my former fiancee had taken of us together so I used some of those and removed her from the photos.  I really think anyone looking at the after photo would never suspect a thing.  I work with photo shop as part of my work and it is a really fun program to work with.
