Information on Novosibirsk
« on: January 11, 2012, 08:19:49 PM »
I have some friends who will be traveling soon to Novosibirsk for an adoption.  It will be their first trip to Russia, so they are asking a lot of questions, but unfortunately I have never visited the city.

So I thought I would make a post and see if there is anyone out there who might know of some good agencies which rent western style apartments?  Also, if you have spent a good deal of time in the city, would you be willing to answer a few of their questions directly as you can send me a PM.

I've spent a fair amount of time in Novosibirsk.  I don't monitor these boards too often but you can send me a private mail and I'll probably respond.

I recommend http://sibnavigation.com/ for flat rental in Novosibirsk.  They also picked me up at the airport and helped me with visa registration.

If you're flying from the west coast (Seattle, SF, LA), it's faster to fly through Beijing.  (e.g., SF->Beijing->Novosibirsk).  That way you only have to do one layover.  If you go through Europe all the routes require two layovers.  You DON'T need a Chinese visa to transit through Beijing if you stay is less than 24 hours.

Guys, January and February are going to be fucking cold (pardon moi) as November and December were unusually warm for the Siberians.
Therefore, I recommend to bring soundly footwear and warm clothing and hats, gloves FOR WINTER SEASON (but not from the fall collection Boss plsssss).
You can quickly fly from NYC to Moscow and then to Novosibirsk, verified by experiment. During a stop in Moscow, you can manage to get on aeroexpress  from airoport and visit Red Square and stroll along Arbat not hurry and get back on an evening flight.
