need help with language change on computer
« on: March 03, 2006, 09:04:58 PM »
I am running Windows Me.. I went into languages and added Russian. I have "en-us" first, then "ru" second. I am not able to switch back and fourth anymore. I used to have next to the clock on the lower task bar a blue box that said: EN or RU.

If any of you computer guys could point me in the right direction, Thanks!

Been a long time since I saw WinME but I think if you look under  "Control Panel" there should be a Languages section. Check what you  have there. You may have to install it again if it got lost in the bits  and bytes.

Try just hitting the left "SHIFT and the left "ALT" button at the same time, it should switch it back and forth for you even if the little square icon in the tray by the clock is gone.

Maybe you can use following alternative tip, that can be used by any computer.

Following webpage "translate" latin-letters into russian, so you can write & then copy/ paste

Thanks for the advice! It turned out to be something simple. I purchased a new keyboard {Eng-Rus}, I did not know that I had to go into the keyboard settings and add a second language. Once I did that, my little blue box came back and I am able to switch back and fourth with out a problem :)

I had the same problem. Windows decides to take a nap sometimes and it is not our fault.

Did you set languages for a Russian keyboard? This is another option.

I am very happy. My pc blew up last week, I took it in to be repaired and now it has WindowsXp AND they installed Windows Office 2000, which I never asked for. It was an added bonus.

Clyde,

My new keyboard has both English and Russian keys. Yes, I added Russian to it and it's working fine now. I click back and fourth between the two with the En-Ru button and also as Jet mentioned, the left Alt & Shift works very well too :)
