Vacation whores amid a falling ruble

Most of you already know my opinion of scheduling the honeymoon before meeting the gal and her family. I believe it paramount to get to know the lady in her natural home environment and if you live in a country that allows her to visit, give her the same courtesy.

The Moscow Times had an article in yesterday's edition about Russians either delaying or canceling summer travel plans because of the falling ruble to the dollar and euro. As the ruble falls, vendors and travel agencies must boost prices to make up for the shortfall.

In the West we use Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz and a billion other websites but in the East the concept of a travel agent is alive and well. Travel agents book and pay in advance or make deposits for the services and if the ruble falls, the traveler must make up for the loss in currency value.

While it must be said that some men have been fortunate to have found a good wife while on a offshore holiday meeting, and my comments are not meant to offend, there are far more potential pitfalls than advantages.

My guess is that some new men to this adventure will be enticed this summer with offers to meet at an offshore vacation spot for the first meeting. There has been for a decade or more the common perception that some neighborhood gals are "vacation whores." You meet and she puts out enough to keep your wallet in an erect position right up to the end of the vacation. Only back home do you eventually discover that her interest has dimmed.

If she needs a holiday, let it be entertaining you in her hometown. That will actually help the ruble a lot more than you escorting an escort off on a foreign vacation.

Now, keep in mind this arrangement (vacation whore) may be music to the ears of some. This vacation whore thingy is nothing new as evidenced by the escort sites.

I don't particularly like anyone calling women whores. If a new friend takes me somewhere and pays am I a whore? OK, maybe    , but seriously no. Am I obliged to marry him/her in any case?
 
Yes there are plenty of women worldwide who will accompany you on a free vacation, and IMO, God bless them for being there in a pinch  . I'm not opposed to this kind of travel arrangement.
 
If you're a man who doesn't understand this arrangement, then you get what you deserve.
 
As far as coming to Russia to meet your real live girl, obviously that should be the intended plan, but it doesn't mean a vacation together first is such a bad thing. I would think that it depends on the situation. A man just has to have a clue about his situation. If not, let the pieces fall where they may. Enough of  the hand holding for men.
 
And unless you have a direct influence on oil prices, your coming to Russia will do absolutely nothing to impact the ruble, which BTW has gained about one-third of what it had lost previously just this week.
 
Also Russians are not cancelling their trips and none of the already scheduled vacations have been affected. The only thing that has happened is Russians are waiting longer to book their trips than before as they wait for the ruble to stabilize. Russians typically book their vacations months ahead of time. And more and more Russians are now using the internet to book trips without the help of an agency.
 
Seems the agencies are the ones hurting because of this ruble fluctuation while desperately trying to pass it off on the vacationing public. I say after years of ripping off the average travelling Russian, so be it. Karma is a bitch.

My apologies Chivo, I thought you of sufficient intelligence to understand that spending money locally instead of spending it offshore does contribute to the local economy. I doubt that anyone outside of yourself thought that some bloke landing with his $4k in Moscow was somehow going to miraculously resurrect world oil prices. 

Yes the ruble has improved. You forget that my post was written at a time just after the (Russian) Central Bank said that the ruble had dropped to a 3-year low and even simple guys like you and me should understand how that may have gotten the attention of international markets.

Yes, things are settling back to normal thanks to Ural crude, The Russian currency gained 0.3 percent to 32.5050 per dollar by the close in Moscow, taking its advance this week to 0.5 percent. (Bloomberg)

You should call up Vedomosti and the Moscow Times as apparently they're also guilty of running stories counter to your information.

Now as for the term "vacation whore" or "holiday whore" it is something learned in Russia, by Russian speakers. I don't really care for the term but have no problem writing about guys who may be led on that a gal is interested in marriage when all she wants is a free holiday.

You do realize that out of all the people you meet, you marry only one, so that means 99.999% of the people you ever meet, you will not marry ? But no, it's easier to paint the girl as a vacation whore, who had no interest in marriage to begin with, than to think it has something to do with a lack of chemistry or plain incompatibility of the two people involved.

A better term than "vacation whore" is needed. 
 
An advertised escort will do the same several times a year,  and she will want not only her expenses reimbursed (as with the amateur) but receive a daily professional fee.  Such is a whore in my book.  In contrast, what Mendeleyev describes seems to be a RW looking primarily for a good travel adventure and doing this only once or twice a year. 
 
Then there is the next level, a higher level, in which a man has communicated enough to feel she was making the trip in good faith:  interested in learning much more about the man, hoping that he might be her destiny, accepting that the odds were high that it would not happen, willing to have a good time even if there were no deep chemistry, and not expecting the man to fill her luggage with expensive gifts for the trip home.   
 
I have done such blind dates with RW several times.  All proved to be delightful save one vacation from hell.   A couple RW became friends, and one became very dear.
