Ukraine/Russia shoe sizes
« on: June 25, 2012, 01:51:26 PM »
Question to the ladies, I am thinking of getting some shoes for my gf whom in Ukraine wears 36/37
She believes that it should be the same in Europe

According to this table:
http://www.i18nguy.com/l10n/shoes.html

37 Ukr/Rus is 39 in Europe which I don't think it's true cause I know her feet are smaller than Eu39

Help please!!

Whilst the ladies of this site are busy cooking tasty dishes I can give you a definitive answer.

In Ukraine you will find some shoes are marked with a EU shoe size and some with a Russian shoe size. If your lady takes a size 36/37 you need to find out if that is EU or Russian. If she doesn’t know, buy her a dress instead.

Looking at chart it  has some numbers that I would disagree with-so be carefull with that.
Easiest way to do size--  heel against wall-- measure from wall to tip of longest toe.Do both feet as it is highly probable that they will be different.Do the same for the width-- vast differences in foot width.
Take measurements to store-- look at adjustable sizer--- voila-- you have precise size.I also recommend getting attendant/fellow customer with like size to try shoe on for fit.
It sounds like a lot of trouble-- but it will get the right result first time.

\ps--I am no lady!!!

Obviously, you have the biggest brass cajones of any poster here or you haven't a clue as to what you are doing.  :D No good can come from a man attempting to pick out shoes for his woman. No good. Buy something else

I am in the fashion business, but shoe sizes are not always accurate - same goes for clothing, unfortunately.

Shoes:  Most of UK 9 fits me, but some 10, and some 8!!!

To buy her a dress is always safer than buying her a pair of shoes!  If the dress is too big for her, she can alter the dress  (unlike shoes), and of course if you have a poor sense of fashion / style, then you better buy her a box of chocolate instead lol

Mrs M and I have an agreement. She won't change the oil in the car as long as I don't buy her clothing without her present.

That is dangerous on so many levels. Who wants to haul a pair of shoes to Russia only to find that they're too big/too little/too narrow/too wide, etc. You can't give them away because that would show that they weren't special to her, were only generic shoes, and mean nothing if you can so easily give them to a stranger even if the stranger is her Aunt. You can't take them back for exchange because that means you're cheap. You can't sell them on the street like you're some starving pensioner.

Dude, go with the chocolate.

I suggested a way above to size accurately-- simply trace the outline of the foot as I suggested.
It is possible that specialised footwear is being referred to.
I hate always being bigger than Texas-- but I was very involved with the buying and selling -including at retail level  and large numbers were sold to distant purchasers --either from phone or mail.
I have one last important tip!!-- make sure both feet are measured-- very few have feet that are identical left & right. As a curious aside-- this matches with another part of the female anatomy that guys love!!-- they are also usually different from side to side!!

Dude NEVER buy her shoes without her feet.

Take her shoe shopping.
Have her model assorted shoes,
and give her your input.
Be her assistant and you will get
the perfect shoes, because she picked them  and is walking home with you in them :)

If you are not with her, why are you buying shoes and sending them? Have you ever actually touched this woman?

    FP speaks the truth.

There are plenty of shoe stores in Ukraine.  You will pay more, but she will like them and they will fit.  The odds of her being happy with what you buy by yourself are 100-to-1, even if it says "Made in Italy."

And so . . . when you find they are different . . .

 :) :) :) :) :)

To begin with, probably this could help somebody, wondering the same thing as I was, russian/ukrainian shoes sizes apparently are the same as in Europe :)

I had not logged in a while, since I got an answer from a friend. But it was fun reading to the answers I got here.

Noticed that my original question was not advice about shoe styles, or whether it was a good present. The only thing it was about the size and it's equivalent in Europe :)

Now for the ones who are interested, my visit to my gf is over this time around :(
I got her a pair of Mensur shoes, that were very much appreciated and fit perfectly. I know my girlfriend very well and her style.
Many times before I have shopped for shoes and women clothes for both my partner at the time and for photo shoots (I am semi pro photographer that shoots models)

So thanks for the help and concern!

If you have one foot larger than the other one, your logical choice would be to buy two pairs of shoes of the same model and throw away one of each side. Unless of course, you have a friend with the same problem, but the larger foot is not the same one.

Most shoes you find in USA are made in China; not good materials nor quality. You might be better off buying shoes in Ukraine.

I would draw the line at that if the manufacturer was Manolo Blahnik or Jimmy Choo!

@JayH, like I mentioned on my previous post a friend confirmed that the sizes were the same as the european, so I opted for 37, the "bigger" ones, they fit perfectly

@Wayne, I was asking for european sizes vs russian/ukr sizes, so I don't live in the US (not that swedish shoes are any better than american, thou  ;))

@Anotherkiwi, yeah that would be nice, I was actually looking at pair Louboutin's (expensive!!!) maybe someday down the road
