Best flight connection to Sumy in Ukraine ??

In October, I'm planning to fly from Berlin in Germany to Sumy. The internet search comes up with "no flights available" which is implausible. Berlin has an airport (two actually - TXL, SXF) and so does Sumy (UMY).

Has anyone of you ever taken a trip to Sumy and can share some insights? Do all international flights go to Kiev first and then "all change"??

I haven't been there, but it does not appear that there are any scheduled flights to Sumy.  There's a thread on another forum which touches on this.  The only working reference I can find for the airport is that it is (or was) used by Constanta Airlines, a charter company based in Zaporozhe.  Train or taxi from Kyiv looks the best way to get there (5 or 6 hours each way).

Also, a bus might be a good travel alternative for you to get from Boryspil airport to Sumy, it takes about 4,5 hours each way

According to Wiki, there is no flights from Kiev.


You can arrive Kiev and take bus / train / taxi

Thanks -- taxi or bus seems to be the way forward. Both are fairly reasonably priced, from what I've heard. Taking the train is another option.

Anyway - isn't Sumy one of the destinations of those infamous "romance tours"? The city is a bit off the beaten track and with 280,000 inhabitants not on the same level as Kiev or Odessa.

Look at flights to Kharkiv-- closer to Sumy  and taxi will be cheaper. Cheapest way from Kiev will be train.
