Until recently, the obligations under  the I-864 Affidavit of Support have not been widely enforced, and there  is little information available to indicate that government agencies  have actually enforced the obligations under the Affidavit of Support  to recover costs for means-tested public benefits.  However, enforcement  actions by the U.S. government may soon be instituted, as a means of  generating revenue for a government running a serious deficit.

The I-864 law applies to spouses from any country.

Guess what?
Enforcement of the support law just may be given over to the IRS.
Recently I have heard that the 'Obamanation' care finance laws will be turned over to the IRS.
4000 more agents will be hired to search for such various revenue.
If they change the bankruptcy laws again, it could become a royal screwing.

I don't know  any hard statistics.

There was a study/survey here on this site that was informative.

In general though it wouldnt be surprising if this was common?
if we step back from it and look rationally?

Generally-
It's two people from very different cultures and with no common *fluent* language.
Also economically different.
They meet and seldom have much face to face time pre- marriage.

With domestic divorce rates in both cultures average 50% or higher,.
add in the complexities in this general situation,  and it would seem unusual if it wern't higher than domestic?

I believe it to actually be roughly the same or less than domestic marriages?

but often wonder if that is simply because the overall divorce rate for domestic marriages is based on a larger group with generally far more years of marriage on average. (longer marriages that eventually end add to the rate)
and many MOB scenarios would still be in the earlier years of marriage?

Mark,
just curious if you have ever hit up mamba.ru for the chicago area?
There are a lot of single russian/ukranian/ lithuanian / polish (EE) women in this area for sure.
a south side lithuanian restuarant has a meet and greet night for singles, lots of things like that.

I do realize you seem to have already met some RW you are interested in.Just wondered if you had also met some in this area..

Most stats on AM and RW wouldn't be reliable since there are few marriages and many of them young. Not many celebrating their 50th aniversary but then again, not many got married before the Iron Curtain came down.

Don't worry too much about the divorces of other people but you can learn from their mistakes. Choose wisely because when two good people get together, good things happen.
Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.
