Visitor Visa to Canada for my Ukrainian lady friend
« on: September 24, 2013, 06:25:18 PM »
My question may or may not be a simple one. I have been chatting online and on the phone with a lady in the Ukraine for the last 2 months. We're both in our 40's and we seem to get along rather well, I'm going to visit her in early December. If that meeting goes well, I'd like to bring her over to Canada in late spring or early summer. She speaks 5 languages and tutors children in English and French but she has no children of her own. From what I understand she is paid cash so I don't believe she shows in the government's eyes as being employed. My question for some of the more seasoned members here is this. With no real employment to show if I invite her to stay in Canada for 2 weeks to a month and I sponsor her visitor visa does she have a realistic chance of being granted her visa? I have a friend who married a Russian doctor and he says it was a mountain of paperwork and her visitor visa was never granted. He finally married her over there and it took some time but she was finally allowed to leave and 5 years later they are still extremely happy together. He's warning me with no real job to show and no children for her to return to she may not ever be granted a visa. I would truly appreciate anybody's insight on this one, there seems to be good information on visiting the USA but I've seen very little in regards to Canada.

Maybe some of your compatriots will show up and give you some direction. In the meantime have you checked here?

www.visajourney.com

I don't know if it will offer much on the Canadian side but it might or, offer some links

Welcome to the forum BBD!

I rarely give advice on this forum, despite being a member for almost 4 years now.

This is an inquiry I feel qualified to give input on.

First, I wouldn't put the cart before the horse.
Go visit her in December and see how it goes.
Although I wish you the best of success, in many cases the bottom falls out of the relationship in just a few days or less, despite the best of intentions of both parties.

If all goes well, then, and only then would I begin to entertain obtaining a possible visa for her.

Given her work situation, it wouldn't be an easy process as you have learned from your friend.

I have had success in bringing over women from the east to Canada.
My track record is quite good. But every situation is different and different approaches are often needed.

Assuming your visit is a success, I would then plan one or two trips to Europe where the two of you can meet and she can establish a track record of Shengen visas. They are helpful in the eyes of Canada customs agents.

Looks like my type of a person!  8)  Years ago, I also learned five languages without even having talked to a native.

I'd love to meet your friend one day! Too bad that you are far from Toronto,ON  :(

Welcome BBD

There was another Canadian, Romeo who asked for information about getting a visitor visa this spring. If you read this link I provided you will see that they gave one to his friend.

You might want to try sending him a pm and see if he would help you with information about what exactly they did to get the visa. Good luck!

I have some experience in this, as I have managed to obtain visitor visa's for 2 different women.
That said, with only one trip there, and her having no reason to return, your chances are going to be low.
What Canada wants the most, is to see a reason for her to return.
IE: good job ( this can be done) family, children, etc.

I would for starters, make more than one trip there. but thats me.
Common sense, Is not so common!

Your friend is right. Unless your lady friend can prove she will return to Ukraine. getting a visa will be hard if not imposable. She can prove it by having a job,a flat or owns property, children. She must also prove she can financially support herself while in Canada for the duration of her stay. I been through all this before with my wife. the best way if your serious about her is keep visiting her in Ukraine then if your serious marry her there and sponsor her to Canada.  I hope this helps you.

Hi, I went through this process recently.  My girl got her visa.  But she did have a good job there for the last few years and a lot of letters saying that she would return.  She had also travelled to the UK before that, so I think that helped too.  Definitely the most important thing is showing that she will return.  However, having said that, I think there is also a lot of luck involved, for eg. in who evaluates your application.  In my case it took something like 5 days to be granted the visa, but I've heard a lot longer for others.  I don't think it would hurt too much to try.  And if you're rejected, just go there and do it all.

Not meaning to split hairs here, but . . .

'a lot of letters saying she would return' makes no sense.

The person in question can write such letters and others can write such letters for them . . . but they mean nothing with respect to whether the person will or will not return.

Also, there is nothing that can 'show that she will return.'

Now, if this is reworded to 'showing a lot of reasons why the person would LIKELY return' then it makes some sense.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.
