Changing flight in Kiev for Kharkov
« on: December 13, 2012, 07:47:27 PM »
I have checked flight details if I decided to go to Kharkov.

Departing: 12:20 Wed London Gatwick Apt, United Kingdom Terminal S
Arriving: 17:40 Wed Kiev Borispol Apt, Ukraine Terminal F

Connection: Change plane and terminal.   17:40 Wed - 20:55 Wed  Stop-over duration: 3h15
From: Terminal F, Kiev Borispol Apt (KBP), Kiev, Ukraine
To: Terminal B, Kiev Borispol Apt (KBP),    Kiev, Ukraine

Departing: 20:55 Wed Kiev Borispol Apt, Ukraine Terminal B
Arriving: 21:55 Wed Kharkiv Osnova International Airport, Ukraine
Ukraine Intl. Airlines PS 23 - Aircraft type - 735

I have no experience changing the flight in Ukraine.  According to this flight time, if I arrive on time, I have 3 hours before the next flight.  My question are:

1.  Do I have to show passport, etc in Kiev airport before switching for Kharkov flight?

2.  What about luggage?  Will they transfer it into another flight, or should I pick it up?

Once you arrive in Kiev, You'll only have to go through passport control and customs once. You'll have to check your luggage in again when you change terminals so make sure you pick up your luggage. You will not have to go through customs again when you arrive in Kharkov because its considered a domestic flight.

3 hours is enough time unless delayed on arrivals!!

3 hours should be more than enough time. Passport control and customs are a lot faster than they used to be with the new terminal open. The other terminal is just a short walk over. Safe flight!

Thank you....... I haven't decided where to go!  Maybe Kharkov or Odessa (for Kherson)

3 hours is ok if everything is in schedule!!  As a thought-- you will be arriving late at night wherever you go next-- it is not so easy to do that.
Close to airport ( a few minutes) is Hotel Korona  -- not expensive but clean. You could do that and arrive at check-in in destination city at time to check in.
It would take the pressure off one day trip. I have done quite a few times what you are proposing  and with potential inclement weather a plan B is a good idea.
As an alternative-- look at flight somewhere that goes direct to Odessa --or  chosen destination--still 2 stops but maybe better timing.
SLAVA UKRAYINI  ! HEROYAM SLAVA!!!!
Слава Украине! Слава героям слава!Слава Україні! Слава героям!

You will be coming in at Terminal F and walking to Terminal B.  The walk is only about 200 meters.  Not a bad idea to exchange money at Terminal B when you come in (open all night).   You can never be sure of the times the exchanges are open in Kharkiv.  No jet bridges at Borispol.  But the walk to inside the terminal is not far.  Great all night restaurant in Terminal B if you get stuck there like I did one time.  And Borispol has a good and free wireless capability.  Use the bathrooms downstairs in terminal B.  Much better.

Drop me an email from here if you do make it to Kharkiv.  I will be there throughout the holidays.

Oh, one last thought.  My apartment is about $60 per night.  It is nice.  But this summer I stayed at the Cosmopolit at the north end of town.  It is a very nice hotel and you will likely be one of the few patrons.  I paid the same amount there and they have a killer free breakfast.  Don't go through the internet.  Call them directly.  +38 (057) 75 44 777 to get good pricing.  They do speak American.  But I'm not sure, though, if they speak British.

Thank you JayH & Jone

Now it is down to Kharkov v.  Odessa !!!

I have checked the flight to Odessa.  The 1st leg is exactly the same, but only 5 minutes later flight to Odessa from KBP and only £25 more expensive lol

Taxi from Odessa to Kherson - extra, of course!!

Warmer in Kherson than in Kharkov from the time of the year - January!

Not much.   We've got snow here, but it isn't sticking.
