Lars,

We have counties in Texas bigger than Denmark, in fact, I think we have a few ranches in Texas bigger than Denmark.

When you subscribe for a hard wired local telephone service here with the Bell Telephone System (AT&T) you can sellect your calling area according to your needs.  Many of us reject this as it is antiquated and expensive, most now use a Cellular Phone for unlimited long distance for free, paying only a low flat rate for the minutes actually used.  Then there is the broadband service, such as Vonnage, which is even cheaper and has greater functionality.

Anyone still hooked up to a single pair of copper wires is living in the stone age.

Call me Alley Oop then.

Cell phones drop out about 3 miles from the house-combination of hills and tower location.

I got excited several years ago when I saw Charter crews working at one end of my road; so I called to see how long until I could sign up. After the guy ran my address, it took a few minutes for him to stop laughing; and inform me they had no plans whatsover to run cable by my house. Georgia-Pacific owns about a mile of road frontage, and there are no poles to hang lines on.

BellSouth still works--I use 1010 services and usually get a good connection to Odessa.

Not to say that I am isolated, but it was a big deal when they started 911 service 4 years ago:hairraising:

Ouch :)  Yep, denmark is a litte country, and we have no plans about expanding borders again as in the viking era:D

Here the number of landline phone subscriptions are in a rapid decrease, since cell-phones are so popular (because of low price). In fact, it is not only most of danes who have a cell, it is close everybody. The number of active cell-phone subscriptions even exceed the total population in our (little) country with approx. 10%.

As by you, subscription fee for cell-phones dissapeared more than 5 years ago, from the majority of providers, because of competition, which offcourse leeds to quite low minute price.

Have you tried the "Champion" card? It was either the Bizon or Champion and I chose the Champion. I have thought of switching cards.

I think the each of the two school districts that I taught at in Alaska were bigger than Denmar, but my calling cards were still $.05 per minute around the country. The Boss card is $.08 when I call to a Ukraine landline phone.

My sprint phone is $55/month unlimited everything except international.

I've been using Netone International.  www.netoneint.com/

Its not the cheapest, but its reliable with few cutoffs and and good  sound quality. You can get it at home as your long distance carrier if  you want, or you can just buy a prepaid code.

Calling Belarus seems much pricier than Russia or Ukraine.

I have had good luck with www.pennytalk.com   .02 cents per minute for Moscow and St. Petersburg and .09 cents per minute for the rest of Russia. The connection quality is usually but not always good. I sometimes make a call back to get a better connection.
