Thanks Dave, but I admit I was not the best soldier, and I never fired my weapon at a hostile target.   I did my part as a lieutenant in the Army Corps of Enginners  building airfields, petroleum storage facilities, barracks, roads, port facilities, etc.  in Vietnam.  I returned 40 years later and observed that most of what we constructed had been disassembled and moved.
Other RWD members who are veterans.  There is Good Ol Boy, Vaughn, etc.

I lived and served in West Berlin, which at night, especially in winter, more resembled a city of spies than one could imagine, with its dark streets and alleys, the "Freedom" bridge where prisoner exchanges would happen, and some spectacular defections.  All four branches were represented there with Russian, German and Polish linguists. A very motley crew were we.

I'd wager we lived in relative comfort compared to those in Viet Nam.

Yes, thank you veterans!!! - we owe you far more than most people will ever realize.

My son just left 6 days ago for basic training in San Antonio, Texas - difficult for his wife, they've only been married for 2 months.

Did nine years in the Navy and three tours.   Two westpac's and one IA.  Baghdad was actually quite enjoyable, of course it depends on what you do.

Several restaurants (mostly the chains) in our university town gave free meals  to veterans today, and some more will tomorrow.

My Gal never fails to be amazed that I will still look for bargains, and take advantage of free items like this.

I gathered up a copy of my DD 214 and my last military ID, and we decided to go to Applebee's.

But the waiter just asked me if I was a vet, and then never asked for any proof.  A lot of  younger guys there in uniform; fatigues mostly.

We had a couple of pretty good shrimp meals and then went to an event with eclectic music.
A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.
