Bill O Reilly segment about - Mail Order Brides -
« on: March 23, 2006, 07:54:06 AM »
Maxx-  i was watching  fox -Bill O Reilly last evening and low and behold he had a segment about mail order brides,  they had some lady he interviewed.  but the only topic discussed was how american men could use and abuse these ladies and they had no rights to do anything about it.   i normally like watching bill orielly and i agree with him most of the time, but here he missed 1/2 the story with mail order brides segment.   what do you think should we write him a letter and ask him to  tell the other side of it as well?

I don't share your general opinion of Bill O'Reily or of the Fox News operation.  I think they are stretching the truth to even call themselves "news" and am not the least bit surprised that he would present something as one-sided and myopic as the show you described.  I give it zero credibility, but the sad part is that many misinformed people will actually believe it.

Fox News is the best National News we have now - so a reply to Bill is the way to go.

I saw the segment and it was quite the hatchet job.  The lady raised many of the typical issues of this type of relationship and then stereotyped her answers....O'reilly played right into her hands by throwing up cliched softballs.  One comment she made was that the 90 day temp visa was a 'sexual tryout' period for the male.  It went on and on.  No mention was made of the recent legislation passed in congress.

Who do you recommend al-c? CBS and Dan Rather:shock:? Everybody needs to  use their heads when interpreting the media. They are a business, they want your attention and ratings.

What do I recommend?  Exactly what you are proposing, people using their heads when interepreting the news.  Unfortunately, few people do.

The problem with the news media, whether CBS, FOX, CNN, PBS, etc, is that they play to the same common denominator, the people who swallow what they say as gospel truth.  They don't gear their news to people who will question what they say, but instead to a group that shares their political philosophy. Journalism died a long time ago. These so called new agencies are nothing more than spin doctors who report the way their owners or viewers wish for them to report. The poor journalistic job O'Reilly did on MOB's is not atypical. If the media can get such a simple thing as the MOB subject wrong, just imagine how much other BS is in their big stories. Americans have become brain dead and the media just pours the garbage in to mold their opinions. The press is no longer a watchdog on the politicians or government, but instead a mouthpiece for the left or right, depending on which network you watch. What scares me most, is that the same people who believe these networks, actually vote.

Fox is the best, but you have to distinguish between a serious  news-analysis show like Brit Hume's (he does not hide his  conservatism), Neil Cavuto etc, and that populist hack-job O'Reilly

He is not a newsman.

If he was, he would not have had on a hyphenated woman's rights(read  manhater) advocate without some counter. We need Jack to go on the air!!

I noticed the next night he didn't seem to have any email to read on the subject.

I wouldn't worry too much about the impact of O'Reily with the public. It's in one ear and out the other with most of them. What could be effective is to expose the INS's (USCIS) lack of balance of accepting both sides of the story (the man's and woman's) when they make their decision on whether to grant an abuse petition or not. I mean why don't they want both sides unless they have already made up their minds and judicial review is just a formality? This is the story O'Reily should be sending out.

The other aspects would be that the INS's handling of these cases encourages criminal fraud and that American women are also victims to false DV charges by foreign spouses. Perhaps someone might care that foreigners also get public assistance benefits without ever contributing a dime into taxes if the claim abuse. Anyway there are several issues that go beyond us unsympathetic to the public men that the public might care about. I am sure however the INS would not want too much exposure to these issues. It is their Achieles heel IMO.

Now Golden with your exposure to FOX5 news already and a referance to the producer of that show you might be able to get Bill O'Reily to take notice of you. A little edit job and they would have a segment to broadcast. And don't forget that crazy wild diary of your wife's to show GCG motivation and lend some color. Plus a few laughs.  Bill's looking for the absurd I would bet.

I'll call you and we could put our heads together on this.

Maxx

David Letterman was right about O Rilely.....he told him he was wrong about 80% of the time! Funny exchange really...

I bet he had no problem  finding a whole conga line of RW to attest to his points...RW like to complain..:-)
