Internet Cafes and getting lap tops onto the net

Hey Guys and other Travelers to CIS countries,

I hate to tell you this. But when it comes to spending time looking for a web cafe or thinking I can find a place to get on the net with a lap Top. Time is important not to spend looking. From my travels. The post office in Kiev's city center has a real good cafe. As well as most Metro station have one about a block from one of the exits or entrances. Well the best price was at the train station (BOK3A^) in Kiev. Not on the McDonald's side but the side with the water fall. It's like 1. 35 r. a hour. That's like 4 hours for a buck. Great deal but only 4 computers in two locations. Upstairs and down stairs near the ladies toilet. Note: toilets are Arab style (no seat) Bombs away

The biggest I have ever seen is in Gorky Park underground on the bottom floor. This place had to have 500 computers and while I was there most were in use. $$$$$$ Every city has a web cafe. While in Minsk it was hard to find them. But 2 blocks down from the Fransosky Metro station was a real good one and cheap.

In Kiev the internet cafe I liked the best was just down the street from TGI Friday's  If you walk to Kreshatik from TGIF as soon as you come to Kreshatik on your right, upstairs in the building on the corner.  It is 5 r an hour.   If you walk straight ahead to the Metrograd (underground shopping district) down near the food court is another big one.  Same price buy you have to pay in advance and I never know how long I will be.

I found two internet cafes in Kiev but neither one would let me hook my mac notebook into their system.  This just makes in difficult for file transfers.  Lucky, I had my ipod with me and used it to transfer files to their computer.
The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.  michelangelo

In Perm (Russia) you can find one in almost every post office.  There are lots of them downtown, I have an ISP so no need to look at prices for me.

You can also try some of the American Centers/Corners in Russia, Window on America in UA.
