Guys,

I don't really want to get involved in the whole agency thing so I am thinking of going to Ukraine directly without talking to ladies online beforehand. I am undecided about where to go in the Ukraine, what would be the best city to go to? I am also unsure about how to meet ladies when i get there there, I have been to eastern europe and am wary that a number of girls are more interested in offering shall we say "alternative services" than meeting guys for a relationship. Any pointers would be appreciated.

There are a couple of questions you need to ask yourself. You don't need to answer them here unless you just want to but, be true to yourself in the answer. 1) How are you with meeting women on the fly, on the street, supermarket in your hometown? If that answer isn't "excellent" re-think your strategy. 2) how much time do you have to spend in Ukraine on this trip? If it isn't 4+ weeks, re-think your strategy.

Even though you have been to Eastern Europe, Ukraine is a new place for you. It will take time to gather yourself and feel comfortable moving around. Do you speak the language? If you fail in the women department at home, you will only do slightly better in Ukraine with that going blind strategy. If you succeed at home, why are you going?

There are a lot of agencies here offering different kind of services in the FSU, so you will probably be contacted by thousands of them within a day or two. ;D

Welcome to the forum.

I like your idea of traveling just for the sake of traveling with this gentle reminder: there is no country called "the Ukraine" however there is a beautiful land known by "Ukraine."   :)

If your travels are for just a week or two, with some exceptions your chances at meeting ladies will generally be at bars, nightclubs and street corners, not usually the best marriage material.

Can you spend 4+ weeks as FP suggests?

If so, your opportunities to meet normal ladies will be much better. If you can volunteer for something the number of good ladies you'll meet will be much higher: from orphan projects to children's summer camps to assisting old pensioners with light fix-it opportunities, you'll meet pretty ladies not into the international dating scene.

Next door is a country with similar culture and values with double the ladies: Russia.  Don't make the mistake of only considering Ukraine just because Russia requires a visa.

Welcome to the forum. Considering your main objective is to find a woman in your life, this is a bad idea. Most ladies you'll meet walking down the street isn't looking for a foreign man.

I am also unsure about how to meet ladies when i get there there,

Even more reason to not to what you want to do. If you know how to strike up conversations with ladies walking down the street or sitting in restaurants, you will have fun but if you don't know, you will be wasting a lot of time. Hopefully time wasted will be converted into experience and better conversations.

There's a sticky thread in the Starting out forum written by ML. He lists many agencies and dating sites. Since you don't like agencies, stick with dating sites.

Good Idea, Mendeleyev! The most unselfish women work in volunteer projects in any part of the land. You can open international sites of volunteer`s organizations and you can find what you want.
This is not the shortest path. But this is the most promising way to go. You can make  something for the soul and people, you can learn a foreign language and be safe. I am sure - smile, the heart and soul of our women will not leave you indifferent. But you do it consciously, without coercion and without scammers :)

Because women are pretty.  :)

Mcoll4,

What you are proposing is suicide.
It's not a place of such disparity where you can just go pick out a wife and bring her home.
It will be one thousand times more difficult to date a woman internationally than dating in your town.
It's not an easy way out of doing the things required to find a suitable mate, quite the contrary, It will be much much more difficult.

If you want to be accepted into Ukrainian or Russian social groups, you need to learn about them.
Befriending some local Russian people is a good place to start.
Also learning how to read and write the language will also help tremendously.

Mendy offers some great advice as usual.

mcoll4, the term 'agencies' is a very wide one that ranges from someone holding your hand at every step to a websites that collects profiles to communicate with.

You may not like things like full-service and tours, but I do not see anything wrong with a free website that lets you find one or more people to meet.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

I have made about 25 trips to the FSU.  That includes 3 big agency tours, one of Jacks tours and a bunch of trips to meet women that I have corresponded with.   I have never met one lady from the tours or meetings that offered me "alternative services"   Yes, I have seen a lot of them around the hotel lobby's and bars but not with the women I have corresponded with.

A few of my trips were total busts.  I spent a lot of time wondering the streets and restaurants, but not so much the bars and never met one woman that way that would have been interested in marriage.  Actually I never met one woman that way.   I can recall on Jacks tours two of the guys bought a few zillion roses and went out on the street passing them out to ladies at random hoping to meet some local gals.  By the way these guys were both young and good looking.  They totally struck out.

I would agree with the others, unless you went to volunteer at an orphanage or went to teach English to students it would be a big mistake to just go.

Line up some ladies before you go.  FreePersonals.ru is free.  Elena's is excellent with a majority of sincere women.  Jack's tour is quite good but the big agency tours like AFA and A web are a waste.   There are lots of options.  Find one you are comfortable with and make your trip worth while.

Find where your local FSU communities are, then go from there. There's enough single women already living in the US and you don't need to go elsewhere. You can look at the annual immigration report and you'll see K-visas had decreased almost 90% over the years because of a combination of reasons. One of which is FSUWs are able to travel to the US far more than they can before.

If you'd like to visit Ukraine as a tourist, do so and let the other stuff happen by itself. If it does, great - if not, that wasn't why you were there in the first place.
