MEEST shipping to and from Ukraine
« on: February 02, 2012, 08:04:20 AM »
Does anyone have experience using MEEST to ship packages to or from Ukraine?
They have an office in Lombard, IL  near Chicago which is the closest to us. There is also a local agent in our city.
We are interested in sending items and trying to avoid having them taken or paying a large duty.

We use MEEST regularly and never had a problem with them. Usually takes 6 weeks and you pay per Kilo. You cannot use MEEST to ship from Ukraine.

Use your local office if it is more convenient for you.

MEEST has offices in Ukraine that will ship to their location here in the US. From the office in the US (New Jersey?) you would need to arrange further delivery to your location with another carrier. We were going to use them to ship over my wifes shoes and clothing when she moved over but went another route.

Please do send me that info. I was told they would not ship from UA by the local office. But, if they do, I'd love to have that info so we can arrange shipping from there.

TIA

We talked to ladies on the phone in the offices here and in Odessa, Ukraine. We were told to just bring the package by the office in Odessa and they would ship it. The number in Odessa is 048 778 6433 and the main office in Lviv is 032 244 0304
You can pay for the shipment in Ukraine when the package is dropped off or you can pay for it here in the US once it arrives. No brainer on that one  :)

The price from NJ to Miami on a US carrier made it not worthwhile for us in the end. Easier to just buy some new clothes here and bring some back each return trip to Ukraine.

Yeh Meest will ship to Canada from Ukraine - but only to their Toronto office, then they forward it on with UPS. It worked out to around $10/kg in total, in my case, with customs fees and moving fees - for a large load.

What are you trying to send? USPS has flat rate boxes that you can stuff full of whatever for a set price.

I had 2 package sent. First was 3 pair of jeans, 7 shirts, a cell phone, cologne and some other random items and second package had 3 kindles in it. Shipping cost is about 50 US dollars and it takes 2 weeks to arrive. It was in Russia but I don't think going to Ukraine should be much different.

I used Meest durinf my stidy time in Chicago, IL. They are located in Ukrainian Village, on Chicago Avenue, somewhere to the west from North Damen. I sent big packages to the Ukraine, they were about two months on the way. My experience with them was good.

We use it all the time.

The Russian deli/store is the place we we put our package.

We pay about $1.40 per lb + $20 a package. Max 70 lb package.

What's the latest on using MEEST for sending large boxes/containers (up to 66 pounds apparently) to Ukraine?

Calmissile used their LA office and they list their NJ office on Internet.

But Lily reported using a Chicago drop off place, and HiTech says he drops off at a Russian store.

So do they have multiple drop off places in USA?

Why don't they list these places on their website?

And for a sample I put in, the cost was around $75 to ship from NJ and $95 to ship from 'any other state.'  Yet others tell about having to pay double, triple, etc., to get UPS or some such involved.

Yeah, I know I can contact them directly, but when I tried, they were closed, so just asking here.

ML,

It's been a while, but as I recall, MEEST has a West Coast flight to FSU and an East Cost flight to FSU.  Basically, you ship it to the MEEST warehouse (either one) and they then ship it overseas.  I was lucky that I can drive to the L.A. warehouse eliminating one leg of the shipping.

As I recall, they use UPS or Fedex to get the packages to their closest warehouse.

I would check out USPS although I have not used them yet.  The last time I checked their rates they were less expensive and equal or faster on delivery to Ukraine.

Apparently Meest now has a contract with FedEx to  provide quite low rates for the FedEx leg from any USA city to Meest in New Jersey.  Meest sends you prepaid FedEx labels, and you only make one payment to Meest for the entire distance - - - your USA city to the Ukraine city.

I don't know how new this service is.

Anyone have experience with it?
