Learning about the Cold War
« on: October 20, 2013, 11:06:40 PM »
When TNT first released "The Company" I bought the series first chance I got. It has not been on YouTube until recently and it is a movie that will genuinely help you understand many of the behind the scenes drama of the Cold War.

So much about this movie was well-researched and spot on. Of course the practiced eye can see a few inconsistencies, but they are in no way a detriment to the film. From the Alice in Wonderland references to the winning lottery numbers corresponding to the serial number of a US dollar, much of this film came right out of the KGB and CIA history books.

This one is riveting and takes some time. It is long and you'll hang on every minute of it. It is one of my personal Top 3 movies and taken from perhaps one of author Robert Littell's most accomplished works.

You can learn a lot about both East and West in this film. Enjoy.

That is a good question. I debated about where it should go and put it here as it deals with life in the FSU. But if it should be somewhere else I'll gladly assent to it being moved by someone who has that ability.

So far, so good.   Bit slow, but I guess it's a low budget series.   :)

Mendy, Thank so much for posting the video.  I love these types of movies that are not full of fake pyrotechnics and instead require a lot of concentration to follow the story line.  I got through the first segment.  I might like it well enough to order a DVD so I can watch it on the big screen.

What I find weird that nobody in CIA questioned about that Russian friend of the 2 Yale graduates.  Very strange.   I would think that this friendship would have to be disclosed prior to hiring and after that Russian friend would be closely watched.
