Its the 21st century a new forum section is needed?
« on: November 15, 2013, 09:30:54 AM »
Isn't it about time the forum moved with the times a little? Not every guy today is looking to travel to Eastern Europe in search of a "bride" to take home. There are plenty of guys wanting to re locate to Russia to be with their other half and many do. And many Russian women would actually rather have this situation, I know many with foreign partners living in Russia, there are plenty of nice Russian women who are just tired of Russian men, but don't want to leave the country.
There was a guy only the other day asking about re locating to Romania. Maybe a new section on the topic would create some new threads, instead of the usual boring stuff.

Just saying 8)

What do you suggest the new section/board should be named? Relocating to Russia/Ukraine/the FSU? If you feel the need, why don't you go ahead and create it ::)?

what if she says:

'I love you sweetheart, but I am sorry, I just cannot live in the USA; but marry me and let us live in Russia'

...or if already in the west ...

'I love you so much Husband, but I am terribly unhappy here in the west; please, let us move our family and have our lives in Russia'

Seriously guys. What do you do?

Why would anybody want to leave this fine socialist country and move to Russia?

Fine socialist countries don't eves drop on their friends telephone conversations, to say the least. I'm not going to say any more on this subject :-X

I should chime in that I have a fantastic career that would allow me to find a job no matter where I live.

Honestly I'd probably only move to Europe to one of the countries that have their finances together.  Romania isn't on that list, but there are enough that are close by where I could have a spontaneous weekend trip for her to spend time with the family.

I'd love to find someone who would find southwest Montana or around northwest Wyoming appealing.  The outdoor possibilities there are fantastic and I can always fly to the Oceano in California for some beach time.  While I would be okay with Romania, the population density means I spend way more time standing in line for everything.

Actually I am curious why forum didn't try lure in FSU expats living abroad? I know on odnoklassniki there is a group called 'UK , Англия . Поделитесь своим опытом в адаптации' (UK, England. Share your experience in the adaptation). Many ask there advice about simple things as registering kids with school, renting accommodation, finding car insurance etc. But that group is no where near to what good forum could provide. From one side forum would provide help to FSU expats settle down in new country and from other side would benefit western guys to understand better challenges FSUW will encounter in relocating, help to understand better mentally and allow interact with more FSU people from different backgrounds.

I'd love to relocate and be an expat, but I don't think the income can be beat here. Its a great idea, and would really bring in other POV's.

In fact there is an expat Ukraine forum   http://www.expatua.com/forum/
There is a lot of info from expats that actually live and work there.  There are a lot of gems about dealing with the authorities in every aspect of life.   :(

It is strange there is nothing similar for FSU expats in western countries. As example in UK by 2001 Census recorded 15,160 Russian-born residents (double that to include illegals). Total people of Russian descent estimated to be 300,000. And that is just UK.

Why people make baseless statements like these?

It is great you aren't going to say anymore, because only idiots would not understand that most countries in the world are likely trying to spy on most other countries of the world (friend or foe), in one form or another.

I saw one news comment from a French intelligence operative who said that most of the indignant remarks were merely a reflection of those countries lack of ability to do what USA had done.

This is sort of like those who express shock when they hear that CIA types have assassinated someone.  Well duh!!

Every thing is possible!! its all about positive thinking. Five years ago I over stayed my Russian visa (Not to be recommended) it took me nearly seven weeks to get documentation and and exit visa, by the time I arrived back in the UK my employers had closed down :'( I had $100 in my back pocket. That was it! For the love of Mother Russia I spent the next two years in poverty, even sleeping in a tent for the summer, can you imagine working in a tent with three laptops and 6 batteries! Would you do this for the love of Mother Russia???Any way to cut a long story short , I live very well in Russia now, probably better than most of my UK friends. I have met many guys here who have set up business or are doing some thing all say the same thing! "I have no intention of returning home"  8)

I have been involved with online website expat forums in countries I lived which included: Ukraine, Belgium, Switzerland, Poland, Brazil, India, and China.  We would often meet up as well.
The Kiev expat community is very large and we had bar nights with more than 100 showing up.  Seems ages ago as it was back in 2007 or 2008.
Sometimes to find the website you need best to not always search in English.  You will find them quicker.

I haven't found expat groups all that useful, except for the Moscow Rotary and the American Chamber of Commerce and they really aren't set up as expat oriented. Many expats are around for a short time, teaching English and half starving while chasing skirts, etc. I know most of the journalists and because of family have plenty of extended family & friends in Moscow and across Russia.

We also have a wide circle of friends from the business community so meeting another expat for a beer and talk about the USA seems pointless. I enjoy hanging out with a couple of male cousins near my age or with our son-in-law. But most of all I find Mrs. M pretty cool and she seems to like being near me so I'm very content being in her world as well. It didn't take long to figure out that I didn't "need" to make friends with everyone on the street who just happened to speak perfect English.
