Things are progressing nicely.
« on: November 30, 2013, 07:31:00 PM »
Her English is great so she says. I do know her written English is better than mine. She's traveled a lot. Smart girl. I think I love her. I think she loves me. Why wouldn't she? What's not to love? She's older 38. I have those 3 tickets to go whenever, wherever. I'm thinking January if all goes well. I might have fallen for pictures. Anyone ever been to Lugansk? She doesn't think I can make better borscht than her mother. I find challenges hard to back down from. I probably make better borscht than any of the women here also except maybe Lily.

But you've never met. Hmm.

There is a scene in the movie The Stroll where Alexi and Olga have just met by chance. Both live in Peter. They begin to get to know each other while walking and soon enter a street underpass where they encounter a policeman. Joking around, Alexi has suggested that they get married not 10 minutes after they've first met. Alexi asked the policeman if he believed in love at first sight. Not sure how to respond the young policeman asks Olga if she is okay or being bothered.

Before telling them to run along the policeman wants to know if Alexi is drunk. "Drunk with love" was Alexi's reply. So when I read a story of a guy who has supposedly gone thru a wrenching divorce and then barely into rebound seems ready to declare love for someone he has never met, I'm asking the same question that the policeman asked: Are you drunk?

Lugansk has been called the capital of scammers and for good reason, however I'm not convinced that it is you who should be concerned.

All went well. We spent 14 days in Kiev. Mama was able to get her visa to come visit anytime she wants for the next few years. She was turned down in October so we're happy about the way this went..We met Tom and his lovely girlfriend in Kiev. We all had a nice salad overlooking Independence Square. We had some very up and down weather. Sunny somedays and snow the others. Flew back through Munich and Charlotte and I recommend that route if you can take it. Customs in Charlotte is a breeze. I guess we'll do it again in July or August.
Is this the same guy?
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

Speaking of great English...
How about Sandro!
This guy's English is better than most members' here whose native language is English.  :)

Sandro, at what age did you start to learn English?
Or are you possibly a Brit who's relocated to Italy?  :)
How many languages can you speak?

Sandro, at what age did you start to learn English?
I started at 11 in our equivalent of 7th grade as everybody else here at that time, but jumped ahead of my class after I started reading Walt Disney's comics in the original - that's why I always urge initial learners of foreign languages to read something related to their peculiar interests ;).

Later working 5 years as a technical translator made me reach a much higher level, then living in London for 1 year further capped that. Additionally, in my 30 years at IBM Italy I was exposed to English on an almost daily basis.
Quote
Or are you possibly a Brit who's relocated to Italy?  :)
No, I'm Italian born and raised.
Quote
How many languages can you speak?
Four (Italian, English, French, Spanish in descending order of fluency), but I also 'sampled' a number of others (http://www.floriani.it/lingue-eng.htm) over the years - languages/linguistics are one of my major areas of interest.

He majored in English at university.
Actually, that did not contribute much to my verbal and written fluency: I finally managed to get my degree at a ripe 33 ;D, being a working student.

I just left Lugansk two weeks ago, after being there for 2.5 months. I find it a pleasant small city.  Fly in to Donetsk (airport code DOK) and take a train or bus to Lugansk.   The bus costs about 60 grivna and takes about 3 hours. CC3 can comment on the train as I have not used it. If your girl can, have her meet you at the airport and spend a few days in Donetsk. There is plenty to see and do in Donetsk as it is a much larger city. I know of some good apartments in Donetsk as well if you need them.

I will be in Lugansk again at the end of January. If you will be there at that time PM me and we can meet up.  I and CC3 know of some good apartments that are reasonably priced. We can recommend some good restaurants as well.

Have a good trip and enjoy yourself.

I always knew that comic books had the potential to have a profound effect on kids.

Greg, I know you have a plethora of experience. I talked to you back when
I was a newbie. I am confident that you know how to keep your eyes open.

If you were a newbie I would give you different advice.

I wish you success
