Cashiers offices will be staffed with ladies who likely don't speak English to write down the number of rides you want on a ticket or buy a series of tickets. The digits/numbers are the same as we use in English.

There are vending machines in many stations where you can purchase tickets with a bank card. Those machines are blue and have an English language option.

Finally, if you're out of money many Moscow stations now have a workout area as part of a city wide health initiative and to promote the 2014 Olympics. Just do the required 30 squats and you'll receive a single ticket. Just watch:
