Korona motel?
« on: December 10, 2013, 06:08:38 PM »
I received this advice for an earlier trip....and decided to use them for one night in Jan 2014.

Quote
The Korona Hotel is about 10 minutes from the airport. Its fairly new and the rooms are very nice with queen size beds, free internet and they also have free breakfast for around $50.00 per night. They will even pick you up at the airport for about $7.00. I recommend you check this hotel out. You can book it from almost any of the online booking sites. I used booking.com

I could get a room though Orbitz for 111.00( plus 15% off that),but I looked on Korona's website and booked a room for 600UAH

However today I received this message.

am sorry but the confirmation was sent you incorrect because of software fault.
A room for two people costs 940 UAH.

I will book room for when you are approve this price.

Just looking for some opinions.

Could have been a glitch. Could have been the incorrect price for two people.

Could have been ye ole notorious Ukrainian bait and switch.  You run into that tactic a LOT when booking flats online.  Haven't stayed in many hotels there though.

Regardless, 940UAH is higher than $111 - 15%

I have stayed there  a few times--it was  cheapish at the time.Better rooms about $50-$60 from memory. It did also have some very cheap accommodation. Recently--I made post somewhere!! suggesting it-- and looked up price and it was  more-- 600UAH looks like about that price I saw recently. Only thing I can think of is that it is highest peak time and they are seeking to command a premium.
I try not to enter via Kiev (unless staying there) .
The plus is it is very close to airport-get confirmation in writing  about airport pickup and drop off-- and remind them close as possible to arrival !!
Only other suggestion is to call directly to Hotel-- maybe get native speaker to do it for you!!
While I think of it-- one of my favourite hotels is listed with all the big internet booking companies-- but much cheaper if you call direct.Often sites say no rooms available-- I always get a room when I call.

Added later !!    I just checked sample Jan date 14th=  about USD $67 for 2 people  via Booking.com

You have to remember that hotel prices will always go up during this time of the year. Its just a fact of life. I have stayed in this hotel but it was during non-peak season and the price was about $55.00. Its a great place to stay if you are waiting overnight for a next day flight.

Thanks guys :clapping: I decided to book with Orbitz. However they had no rooms left and neither did booking.com at the korona. So I emailed the Korona back and said I would take it at that price. 5 minutes later they sent me a conformation email.

Just checked again-- only beds left on your date are   about $15 per night!! That is Fifteen ish !!
It is dormitory accomm  in 6 bed shared space !! lol  You could book all 6 !!

I did remember seeing this previously--but could not see when I have looked recently -- so for anyone wanting really cheap-there it is !!

No rooms available at higher prices-- so it is a time of year busy period .

I've not noticed this time of year to be particularly busy, but I also haven't tried to stay at a hotel in Kiev.  I take it from "time of year" that this isn't necessarily related to the demonstrations.. Is this a New Year thing?  Or??

New Year thru to Christmas  is a high point of year. Prices can equal summer high ( eg Yalta) on prices. Many people have time off  work -it seems they like to get away somewhere! I think Kiev prices are higher also-- or at least the cheaper options  get consumed. It seems to be all across Ukraine that is the situation. Also --hotels can be reluctant to take one night booking if you are picking the eyes out of dates-- so all in all-- not a time to quibble about price!! :)
I forgot to add--the same applies with internal air flights-- cost more and harder to get bargain price-let alone precise flight.
I better qualify all that--I am referring to relatively late bookings at short notice.
