Our daughter speaks, reads and writes fairly good Russian and we now have her learning Chinese because those are the
economies of the future, the U.S. if it survives in its current form will at best be a distant 3rd place
.

hahhahahahahha

What a fool you are, russia and china will surpass america in the future? Are you actually serious? Or are you jumping on the bandwagon of what the average joe claims will be the future due to recent changes?

Russia has corruption, any country with that level of corruption lacks innovation, majority of its skilled workers, and entrepreneurs run to the west and do well there. China has its problems, such as pollution, population, so how exactly is it going lead the future? Increase productivity by scale factor of 10? Hence facing further problems, the future is in technology, has been always. America will be much stronger in the future, no doubt about it, it has a system better than the two countries you mentioned.

The political scientist said that Russia has been steadily losing influence in post-Soviet countries. In particular, he said, "Central Asian Khanate gradually become China's near abroad, which is gaining economic strength."

China's neighboring countries, political scientist predicts the loss of the Far East and Siberia

The 'Day After' Has Arrived For Uzbekistan

In Uzbekistan, the zero hour has finally come. For the first time in 25 years of independence, Uzbeks awake to a country not ruled by Islam Abdughanaevich Karimov. This is the day that many in the diaspora and the opposition have longed for, that analysts and academics like me have been asked to game-plan for years, because it was clear that the most likely -- and possibly only -- pathway to political change in one of the world's most consolidated authoritarian regimes was that Karimov might finally succumb to the laws of nature. I have lost count of the conversations I have had with Uzbek friends over the years that trail off with "maybe after Karimov dies..." as they wonder aloud when they might see their families again, travel outside their home country, start a business, study abroad -- all things that became impossible or fraught with danger for many as Uzbekistan steadily grew more isolated, its economy and society coming under ever-tighter control.

I think you don't understand Russia at all. Innovation is a problem here specifically because innovation is change and therefore a challenge to the status quo.

As for China, population growth is now far less of a problem than it was hence the lifting of the one child policy.

The problem with technology for the west is the elimination of jobs by automation (particularly entry level jobs). That's starting to happen all over the place. I really wonder where young people are going to get their first jobs in 20 years from now.

Perhaps the west will end up just as service based economies but  I can't say the potential prospect of that thrills me in any way.

The Year The Collective Putin Died
« Reply #79 on: December 30, 2016, 01:16:11 AM »
In place of a prince and his entourage, we now have a tsar and his servants.

Sergei Ivanov and Viktor Ivanov have a lot in common.

In addition to sharing a last name, both are KGB veterans, both are longtime cronies of Vladimir Putin -- and both were thrown under the bus by the Kremlin leader this year.

The Year The Collective Putin Died

Touching The Untouchables

Until this year, Putin's 16-year rule had been characterized by the dominance of an inner circle of about a dozen men who had worked with the Kremlin leader for decades, either in the KGB or in the St. Petersburg city government in the 1990s.

Known colloquially as the "collective Putin" or "Putin's Politburo," they were widely viewed as Russia's untouchable ruling clique.

When one of their number, Vladimir Yakunin, was fired as head of Russian Railways in August 2015, it became clear they were, in fact, quite touchable.

And this year's deeper culling of the inner circle put to rest any notion of a ruling clique.

Russian politics essentially became a one-man show and Putin became its solitary man.

I rather thought the article was suggesting the current regime feels strong enough to remove characters that might have been considered rivals .... It suggests 'it' feels quite comfortable in it's skin, surely ?

revisiting some recent history sheds real light on current day Russia and it's contempt for the world.

Putin regime was a criminal one long before Crimea the doping scandal shows

Russians and many others besides did not want to face up to the Putin reality from the outset of “false elections, false democracy, false sports victories, false stability that crumbled with the first vacillation of oil prices, false love of peace, and false and repeatedly rewritten history.”

Was there anything genuine in pre-Crimea Putinist Russia? If there was the same pattern of crimes that were even more clearly on display after the Anschluss, Kirillova says. “Only we didn’t notice much of this because it was hidden by more capably made fakes. But the war tore off all these former masques” and revealed how fake they were and remain.

That is why the doping scandal is so important: it focuses the attention of Russians and the world back to a time when so many assumed that Putin was basically doing the right thing. Now, there is no basis for anyone to do so. And this loss of illusions is going to define how Russians and others consider Putin from now on.

That this  is a tragedy for Russia and a danger for the rest of the world because this criminalization of the state or the stratification of criminality means that the Kremlin can and does use criminal methods to advance its goals and the criminal world uses the state to advance its parallel ones.

Chekist regime and criminal world in Russia now ‘completely coincide,’

Those Russian officials who came out of the KGB have not struggled with the criminal world as they did with the Communist Party apparatus in the past, Vitaly Portnikov says. Instead, “they have preferred to become part of this criminal world because the main goals of the Chekists and the criminals – power and money – completely coincide.”

On the basis of these findings, Portnikov says, one must conclude that “the Chekists did not begin to struggle with the criminal world as they had for years with the party apparatus.” Instead, those who came from the KGB and siloviki “preferred to become part of this criminal world.”

The only person convinced by these articles might be you

The issue is that VVP has got most of his people believing Russia is simply being undermined - because the 'USA / West fears a resurgent Russia' !

CLUEBAT - Just like we cannot understand how just under half the American wanted 'Tramp' - even more Russians like Putin

Neither can see their respective Emperors aren't wearing any clothes and resent such a suggestion :)

Chat That Exposes Putin’s Mafia State
« Reply #87 on: April 07, 2017, 11:47:57 PM »

New evidence in the so-called Magnitsky Affair shows the rot at the core of the Russian regime.

The WhatsApp Chat That Exposes Putin’s Mafia State

It was a digital conversation never intended for public consumption. Yet what it discloses is nothing short of damning evidence about a decade-old conspiracy between the Russian mob and officials in Vladimir Putin’s government to steal $230 million from the Russian people, then frame and kill the whistleblowing tax attorney who uncovered the crime.
But here it is: Evidence that leaves little room for doubt that Sergei Magnitsky, the murdered lawyer, was right all along. There was collusion between members of organized crime and the Russian government to perpetrate the original theft and then cover it up. In fact, the cover-up continued years after Magnitsky’s violent end in pretrial detention, where he was beaten to death.
To understand the evid
