Tomorrow is our 3rd wedding anniversary. Just wanted to share our timeline for paperwork processing. She entered the USA on a K-1 Fiance Visa accompanied by her son. I was a bit slow getting the adjustment of status forms submitted so their adjustment of status date was late May.
Now it's time for the their permanent resident conditional status to be removed so they become permanent residents without the conditions on residence status. This paperwork can be submitted up to 90 days prior to the conditional permanent resident card expiration date. We have an almost 2 year old daughter which helps establish our relationship as a valid one, for immigration purposes. Yes, I didn't waste much time getting a family started.
I sent in the paperwork on March 5. Within two weeks we received a notice for her son that the process had been started and he will be notified of their decision or a need for additional processing within one year. The letter said it can be used with the expired card for one year for return entry into the USA, working, etc.
My wife is returning to Latvia in late summer for some dental work so it's important to have a similar letter for her. Another week and still nothing about my wife. So I start a letter to ask what is up with her paperwork. At just over 3 weeks from the initial submission two more letters arrive, one for each of them. They have a date for biometrics, yes, another round of finger printing and photos, and, you guessed it, another check for processing which was submitted with the original paperwork, $345 USD. There was no mention on needing additional papers or an interview. So in summary, from putting the letter in the mail to being at the office for biometrics is just under 6 weeks. The initial cards were issued within 2 hours of their interview so I will assume they will have their new cards the same day.
We are in Oregon so our paperwork went throught the Lincoln, Nebraska Service Center. I'm impressed, that's quick response time.
