I can't wait to deep fry some  :D

My grandfather loved fried pelmeni and Robert time to time asks me to fry them  :)

"Pelmeni" is actually an international dish.
Indeed, they belong to a general category known as dumplings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dumpling) that have variants everywhere, such as our ravioli and tortellini. I think they may have originated as a convenient way of recycling meat leftovers, wrapping them in dough and adding some suitable extra flavouring ;)

It may well be so.  When I have leftover mashed potatoes I use it sometimes for vareniki   :D

so what I want to know about Pelmini is.. why are they so darn expensive here in SF?  I can get fresh ravioli from Lucca for half the price of frozen Pelmini... that just doesn't make sense.

BTW.. I am quite honored to be the first ignored by Shake.. in fact.. I was hoping to be so.  ;)
