Actress causes controversy by saying she is not a feminist
« on: January 02, 2015, 06:43:18 PM »
Actress Kelly Cuoco got herself into a bit of hot water by admitting that she's not a feminist.  Of course soon after she had to somewhat apologize because of the uproar by the intolerant left.

excerpt
The actress also shared her thoughts on feminism, saying: 'I know a lot of the work that paved the way for women happened before I was around...I was never that feminist girl demanding equality, but maybe that’s because I’ve never really faced inequality.'

She said she loved taking care of her 27-year-old husband. The couple will celebrate their first anniversary on New Year's Eve.

'I cook for Ryan five nights a week: It makes me feel like a housewife. I love that. I know it sounds old-fashioned, but I like the idea of women taking care of their men.

I made a mistake in the spelling of her name.  Here's her response to the controversy about not being a feminist.

I have read her original comments and don't see anything insulting about them.  She likes her opportunities and chooses to live more like the ladies of prior generations.   What exactly are the criticisms for anyway?

I read her 'apology' which wasn't really an apology but more like a clarification...Generally speaking in situations like this, her detractors should kiss her ass, she is permitted to like the traditional lifestyle and publicly  express that she likes it.

She doesn't have a traditional lifestyle.  She supports her husband, monetarily, rather than vice versa.

She has benefited from feminism.  Were it not for past feminists, Cuoco would not be making the same salary as her male co-stars.

She already acknowledged the work done by past women, which is the primary reason she doesn't feel discriminated against and doesn't feel a need to be a part of a "movement" which has nothing more to complain about (witness female "spreaders" on the NY City Subway and false allegations of rape against University of Virginia).

And in fact she is behaving like a traditional woman because she has the audacity of preparing meals for her husband, and heaven forbid actually liking it.  If she was not behaving like a traditional woman in some manner there would be no backlash and no controversy.

As an attractive woman in Hollywood she likely makes more than many males and she is after all employed and making money, a rare thing for actors.

She makes the same salary as her male costars, including Jim Parsons, who is the real break out star of the series in which she appears.  She is replaceable.  Parsons is not.

There was no backlash about her comments.

I don't think anyone cares that she cooks for her husband.  I cook more than five meals a week, plus do all the housework.

While I agree that Jim Parsons is the predominant star of the show, I disagree that she is replaceable.  She is an integral part of the show.

No backlash?  Well that's questionable, although it could have been a carefully choreographed stunt pulled on her behalf by her publicity manager.

Her cooking for her husband makes her exceptional compared to others of her gender and generation.

Are you talking about Kaley Cuco or Lucille Ball?

Kaley is the least favorite of all the people in the series.

Parsons is best with the Indian guy, Amy, and Howard's Gal, following closely.

Kaley should be replaced.  Howard and Lenard are just barely acceptable.

I assumed Parsons was making much more than the rest as without him, there would be no show at all.

While I'm not arguing with this, Ryan Sweeting was a good enough tennis player to have been ranked No. 2 junior in the world, and won the 2005 US Junior Open title.  He earnt over a million dollars as a tennis pro, so I don't think that he really needed her salary to support him had he kept playing, which he stopped doing after they married.

I've never watched the Big Bang Theory, nor have I seen Kaley Cuoco in any other performance, so I can't comment on her merits as an actress, let alone whether or not she's worth a million dollars per episode.

Her thoughts on feminism should be considered outside of her talents.

I didn't say he needed her salary to support him.  However, she is supporting him.

Cuoco is not a great actress.  She lucked into a job, and is paid the same as her male co-stars, one of whom is, in fact, a very good actor.

So are you saying that she got the job for her looks?  I'm sure that is possible, although I like her character and think it's integral to the show.

It could be that she was hired mostly for her looks.  After all, men are chauvinists who like attractive women.  It just so happens that chauvinism often benefits women as much or more than men.  According to you she is not as talented as Parsons.  I would think that Parsons should therefore earn a lot more.

No, she is not as talented as Parsons.  Not even close.  But, they make the same $1 million per episode.

Of course she was hired for her looks.  That was the original premise of the programme.

So in the future if Parsons gets a raise and she does not, when the feminists cry foul will you agree that a person should be paid for their merit and not their gender?

My Dad loves the show.  He says she is the best.  Parsons is my favorite but without Penny there is no show especially how the pilot episode is her moving in.

She isn't even good looking.

And her thighs are piggish.

Yes, they need a player in her role; but just not her.

I have never stated people should be paid for their gender, rather than their merit.  However, in this case, the stars have a pact to approach the producers together.  Just as the Friends cast did.
