Tag and Polina are having Turkey for dinner.
« on: August 24, 2015, 09:36:08 PM »
Well I'm sure you can figure out from the placement of this post in the forum, its not the Turkey you eat😜. This will be both of our first times visiting Turkey.  I'm flying to Kiev on September 1st (she's meeting me there) and then flying Turkey the next day together.  We're both super excited about the trip and can't wait to see all the sights, markets and of course the FOOD!  I'll be sure to post an update and a trip report with pictures and hopefully some exciting stories to tell!

If anyone here has been before, please chime in with any helpful tips or suggestions.

If you want a really pleasant experience with Turkey, baste it every 30 minutes. Don't forget to the stuffing and cranberry sauce. I'll be looking forward to your trip report and photos of that Turkey.
Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.

Dear Tag,

I used to live on the island of Cyprus - just to the south of Turkey and 'know'- you can never know it, really - it is a big place -  Istanbul, and the south coast - quite a few resorts.

I posted a tr in May about a resort between Antalya and Kemer and the current theme is 'trip report from a yacht' - where we are sailing in s.Antalya district

We finished that trip with a few days in a hotel in the next district to the west.

Antalya / Kemer / Side is full of Russian speakers - Kas, Fethiye, Dalaman less so, Bodrum and Marmaris have an equal split of Russian, British, German.

You cannot walk down the street in the first three without being challenged in Russian to view the goods on offer in shops.. :(

Please excuse the Curmudgeon in my posts ..he will be cured by being reunited with his loved one ;)

We're looking forward to the markets and all the food and goods for sale there.  Oh and before anyone says anything, I'm very aware of guarding against pick-pocketing and other cons.

far more risk in some European cities ..

The local food bazaars  are worth checking out  - ask a local which day / where they are..and buy from a seller who shows the price / kg

If you tell us what cities or areas you are going to visit . . . then some of us can give you some info on those places.

I have been to Turkey several times.

Istanbul go to Blue Mosque, St Sophia (Hagia Sophia), Topkapı Palace, Grand Bazaar for shopping.

And some combined bus/boat tours.

+1

How long are you there? We have been three times and have still not been to see everything.

Add in the dinner dance show in Galata tower (old Turkish prison), Dolmabahçe Palace, the Basilica sistern, Roman ruins outside city, one of the waterfalls on a combined tour, dinner and walk around Taksim. Rumeli Fort as well via car or from a boat.
