Is your wife working here?

Interesting. I went on a search and found that Florida is very vague in the education requirements to become an LPN or an RN. However, they mention that in the State of Connecticut you can be an RN with an associate degree but it will be almost impossible to land any entry job (as an RN) unless you have copious amounts of experience doing LPN work, which BTW only requires an associate degree.

Then they suggest the LPN to complete her BS in order to be considered for application to an RN license.

There are various routes here in Florida. We have many small nursing schools catering to low income and immigrants popping up all over. Some of these students will have a hard time finding work due to accreditation but there is a demand for nurses down here with all the blue hairs. The better universities have a wait. We know a guy who was pushed through in less than 2 years and makes more than most with 4 year degrees as he is able to lift patients.

One idea if your English is decent Sun Gal would be pharmaceutical sales. They are always hiring for these positions and you can make your own schedule. The earning potential is much more than an RN. Much, much more.

Billy that was very good detailed information. Since my daughter has completed several years at the FSU medical university, a maximum of 60 credits or two years of study could be applied to a four year degree.

The four year degree can be obtained in our city so she could live at home and would not need to pay to stay some where. I don't think there is a waiting period to get into the foiur year program. There is also a masters degree program locally.

Of course, she could apply for medical school later with the proper degree.

I think after you are 23 years old, you can apply for a pell grant without listing your parents income. My son did this and all of his college expenses were covered.

Yes, so you know who paid for your son's education?

Lets leave it at this - Paradise is paradise, and hell is hell. If you think being with your wife is hell, and you end up being with your wife, then you cant be in paradise can you?

My wife was a Medical Artist in Russia. She was asked by a team of American doctors and lawyers if she would relocate here if they sponsored her which she did.

When I met her she had been here going on 10 years and had gotten her US Citizenship. She worked mostly in the field of Criminology.

She retired when we got married and has a studio here at home where she works part time now. When we got married she had a masters degree and is now working on her phd in medical science.

Strange combination:  Retired . . . working on PhD.
Planning to un-retire ?

No, she doesn't plan on un retiring. She does a limited amount of work to retain her license and help her friends sometimes.

PHD..why not? She has the intelligence and the time to do it now. She's an artist, my mom was an artist and they think alike..they're different and you have to accept and respect that in them and it's best not to ask them why they think or do some things the way the do sometimes. We've got a retired 88 year old neighbor working on her phd.

PHD..why not?

Because it involves a lot of hoops to jump through, some of which have nothing to do with gaining knowledge or  working your brain.

I understand lifelong learning.  But such doesn't require that one follow a set of rules, procedures and a lot of paperwork which are not a part of life long learning.

My oldest daughter is now the manager of our business. She has a masters in architectural engineering and is working on her phd in another subject. You ask her why and she will tell you...because I want to.

Some people like to always be learning and I certainly respect that in them. My brain is full and needs emptying a little and I'm personally not interested in filling up my brain again lol.

I understand your wife can join you but she cant work.

New Zealand doesn't have an exact equivalent of the K-1 visa - ours is called a Partnership Visa, is for nine months (not three), and the visiting partner IS allowed to work.  Australia is similar, but not exactly the same.

Why is a work permit needed?
