You're also missing a Bond...David Niven.  He portrayed Bond in a comedy based on the novel Casino Royale and titled Casino Royale.

Edit: I chose Roger Moore. That's the actor who personifies Bond best for me probably because that's the Bond I remember from the movies in my youth.

Given time Daniel Craig will come to 'own' the franchise though, I'd think. He's a good Bond.

Ian Fleming did not agree....

After considering the likes of 'refined' English actors such as Cary Grant and David Niven, the producers cast Sean Connery as Bond in the film. Fleming was appalled at the selection of the uncouth, 31-year-old Scottish actor, considering him to be the antithesis of his character.

David Niven was my favourite actor from the "Golden Age" of film-making.  His autobiography, "Bring on the Empty Horses," is a seriously GREAT read.

Hi Brass,

I don't consider the 1967 Casino Royale to BE a Bond movie - as it was a spoof and there were many 'Bonds' ..not just Niven... Good film, none the less.

The 'proper' Bond franchise finally acquired the rights to Casino Royale and, for me... it is one of the closet to the Fleming book in both story-line and characters

Best Bond? Hmmm, I appreciated the wit of Roger Moore, but to be believable he was too high class. Most believable is Daniel Craig. He's got the physique to almost pull it off. Funny thought though, Sean Connery actually contended for the 1953 Mr. Universe contest! I like Connery more for Movie roles later than Bond.
