Regarding misunderstandings because of English:

Worse than cases where the woman gets immediately upset at what she thought you said . . . is the case when she doesn't tell you about being upset . . . so you have no chance to address the misunderstanding.

And this can happen even where the woman has almost perfect grasp of English.  Can be caused by idioms, USA regional only words, etc.

My experiences with these issues have been minimal because I have been with pretty good English speakers 90% plus of the time.  But still, I have encountered some.  And, as I said, the worst outcomes are when the woman doesn't immediately react.

A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.

I had a recent experience on misunderstandings.  Good friend of mine who does translating work and as an interpreter ( yes-- for many mob searchers !) has excellent English in general terms( his mother lives in Florida now  & he has been in the US numerous times) .

When we were out together we ran into a group of American guys at a bar -they had been there for some time. In previous days he had taken the guys to a local nightlife club -- and basically interpreted for them.
As it happens-- he knew quite a few people there( yes girls-ordinary  local girls -not "working" type girls) and introduced some to the visiting guys etc etc

Now-- when we arrived to this group-- one of the guys that had had a fair bit to drink -- introduced my friend to others as a "wing" man. This word.expression  was new to him -- and he queried it .American guy attempted to explain what it meant -- and amongst other things he said-"you are a good looking guy and girls fall over you" etc  and you can share them with us -after all-- we are the ones paying you etc

At that point --my friend got up and said "F .. you"  and to me let's go.

As we walked-I asked him "what's up" thinking I had missed something. Eventually he said
"he called me a "pimp & gigolo "

It took some considerable time to placate him and explain in a better way what a "wing" man was -- and that it had no other connotation. And of course-the guys attempts to explain were clumsy.

Later - I was able to explain to that American guy what had upset our friend.

As ML said above -- it is not always possible to recover a situation-- or even to know that you had offended.

I have been to Chernivtsi, I quite enjoyed the city.
Very close to the Carpathian mountains, ( worth at least a day trip if you can swing it)
Good Restaurants, enjoyable place to walk. Very little English.
Not far from Lviv. Lots of history.
Common sense, Is not so common!

I would try to arrange a translator, even if only needed part time.
If things go sideways, you will have help if needed.
Otherwise go have fun, treat it as holiday and if the girl works out, Bonus :)

Thank you Boethius

Vasyl is the name of the person that runs http://ace-interpreter.com/
He is a stand up person.
I highly recommend him.
Not only for translating but arranging taxi's and many other things.
Best way to get to Chernivtsi is fly to into LVIV then take the train or a taxi.

But many cities claim the moniker -

Minot North Dakota calls itself "The Enchanted City". It's my humble opinion that their
charm and enchanting qualities are slightly overstated. It happens when people are
allowed to choose their own nicknames  ;D
