Just a couple of tidbits in the story which open up all sorts of possibilities.  Certainly the comments are interesting, covering the usual gamut of ignorance, interspersed with some very sensible suggestions.

Obviously a lot more needs to be disclosed before a final disposition can be made.

Seems this "news" is old and not to be believed :

On 18 February 2016, the web site World News Daily Report published an article reporting that a Nazi submarine had been discovered in Lake Ontario. As with all of World News Daily Report‘s content, the Nazi sub story was entirely fabricated. The article used an unrelated image of a rusting, decommissioned Russian submarine from the Cold War era to illustrate the claim, not a picture of a genuine World War II-era German U-boat.

The sub does not look like a German U-boat AT ALL, and you can see a blue-cross flag of St. Andrew flying on the conning tower:

This flag is the reverse of the Scottish flag (White cross on a Navy Blue background), yet both are known as St Andrew's Cross.
