Ukraine situation with Russia - Orthodox Church rift

The Russian Orthodox Church has effectively cut diplomatic relations with the Patriarchate of Constantinople, which has authority over the world's 300 million Orthodox Christians.

This is because the Orthodox Church will recognise the right of the Ukraine Orthodox Church to split from Moscow - given the Ukrainians feel the Russian Patriarchate has politically aligned himself with the Kremlin re Crimea / E.Ukraine
