Explaining to your Ukrainian woman why USA won't go into Ukraine

How many of you have been put on the spot by your Ukrainian partner to explain why USA has gone into many countries of the world to 'help' but now refuses to go into Ukraine to help ?

And how do you explain it.

No, she understands the political complexity and differences between wars in the Middle East
 or  in Ukraine for the USA and the world.
     There is zero expectation of US sending troops. I havnt asked that specifically,
but I'd say she'd fear that would only escalate things to the point of a full.usa Russia confrontation with Ukraine being the front lines. Her own parents were born during the fallout of last time there was a similar scenario and her grandparents did not all survive it .


She's also not foolish enough to think we helped* anywhere recently from purely altruistic notions.
It's most always about the dollar , and self interest.
Having a husband that's been in the middle east, perhaps tempers that outlook as well.

Just stick with the old skool explanation that you don't discuss business or politics in front of women, she'll love you for it

Actually quite easy.

There are 800 cities in Europe with population over 50,000. There are 600 cities in the US with population over 50,000.  There are 300 cities in Russia with population over 50,000.

Russia has approximately 6,000 nuclear warheads.  The US has approximately 5,500. The vast majority are aimed at each other. Europe has several hundred that make up the difference.

I was asked if we should start building a bunker.  I responded:  Why worry? Enjoy life while you can because it won't be worth living when the shit hits the fan.  Maybe a nice vacation instead of a bunker?

...and lines are already blurred.  No official NATO involvement, yet most of the NATO countries are already helping.   If Russia tries to prevent that 'helping' with conventional missiles first, it would be considered an attack. Then the people may get to experience life in a post nuclear world.  Who the hell wants that?   Russia isn't Libya, or Guatemala.

I have doubts about that Boethius.

Such would likely be deemed an offensive act. NATO stance is purely defensive in nature, requiring an offensive act before doing anything.  The US  would not act independently and without the consent of other stakeholders.  Lessons learned about doing so.  A split NATO is exactly what Putin wanted.  The ball stayed in his court.

All parties were forced to officially take the situation at face value until proven otherwise.

Agree except you missed Beo included NATO.
If NATO had announced this prior, there would not be this mess.
