Approved!
« on: December 12, 2006, 05:00:50 PM »
My fiancee phoned me at 3AM today to tell me that her visa had been approved. She arrived at the embassy at 7AM and waited outside along with a sizable crowd. The first embassy employee she talked to was a Russian woman, who was severe and bloodless. The person who interviewed her was an American woman. My fiancee was stunned at how open and kind she was, smiling freely. She commented that if many Americans are like her, she will be very happy here.

She was asked only a few questions, how and when did we meet. She showed the woman a page I'd printed out from the website where I buy my calling cards. Since January I've spent $750 on calling cards, and I buy one of the cheapest cards (Penny Boss).  :P

I fly to Moscow on Friday, and we'll return to the US together on 12/20. Man, I can't wait to see her.

Groov!

That seriously ROCKS! Congradulations to both of you!!! Check out Vonage. We don't pay more than about 35 a month for the phone and this is for hours of talking each month. Yes, you have to have the broadband but it more than makes up for it.

What a super fantastic present for the holidays!!!!!

accompany her over, too!

Thanks for all the good wishes!

We were truly blessed and made it through the K1 process in just over 3 months.

I'm planning to walk her around my neighborhood on our first evening here, then have dinner at a nice restaurant near our home. I'm worried she'll have a hard time adjusting to our food, but we'll deal with that when the time comes. If necessary, we'll take the subway to Brighton and shop for groceries there.

One of her most serious doubts about coming to the US was leaving her alcoholic father behind. She takes care of him, as his ex-wife and other daughter haven't spoken to him in years. A few weeks ago he woke up and couldn't feel his legs. That night he had a nightmare in which he saw himself dying from too much drinking. Since that day he hasn't had a drink, his health has improved, and my fiancee finally has her "real" dad to talk to every night after 5 long years. When he was drinking, he disapproved of our relationship, now he's fully behind us and talks of visiting us sometime next year. I know odds are against him in the long run, but witnessing someone who used to drink a liter of vodka every night for five years quit cold turkey is a miracle in itself.

We're talking about flying to Vegas some weekend in January and getting hitched. We'll celebrate with family and friends sometime in Spring, as she wants her mom and sister to join us.

There were times during my search that I thought I must be crazy, but now everything feels perfectly natural.

To you new guys embarking on your search: there are plenty of good ones left, just don't expect to meet her on your first trip.

Congratulations!

"We're talking about flying to Vegas some weekend in January and getting hitched. We'll celebrate with family and friends sometime in Spring, as she wants her mom and sister to join us."  Chances are she will not be happy with a Vegas wedding once she gets her feet on the ground.  She will enjoy a trip to Vegas though.  Naturally, Hawaii would be better.  I know, because I took my wife on both of them.

Fortunately, the fiance visa to get the girl to NY is fast.  Unfortunately, the rest of the process for NYC residents has traditionally been slow.  My wife has been married for over two years and is only now being granted the opportunity to get a second set of fingerprints in the hopes of getting a green card.

Mark,
Congratulations!!
It's nice to hear a success story, rather than all of these pathetic crash and burn stories.

...Anyway, I can relate to the 'dependent father' thing.  Picture an old ornery man with a
bad leg, bad general health, staring at the walls until his only child returns to him (to take care of him)
Not an easy thing to deal with.

I'm sure you will have better luck than I had. Best of luck to you.

Food shouldn't be a problem in NY where the food is the best and the diversity is unmatched.
She'll need time to adjust to jetlag. Does she cook?  She'll just need a good food market.
She may expect the BIG meal at 2 PM.  Take her to botanical gardens and allow her to
bring home lots of plants for your home.    All the best,  Doug
