SMS messages to/from Russia
« on: December 26, 2006, 04:09:48 PM »
Has anyone here figured out how to send/receive SMS messages to/from Russia?

Is there a way to do it from my mobile phone in the US?  If I have Cingular and she has Beeline, is there a way for us to just send messages back and forth?

If it's not possible, perhaps there is some other mechanism I can use to rend/receive SMS messages from here, like through some sort of computer program or web site?

I know there's some guys on here that are smarter than me.  C'mon, spill the beans...

You can use this service from your laptop, I have been a member for about 8 months and no problems.

Good Luck

www.sendsmsnow.com works excellent for Russia and anywhere else.

I have T-Mobile; she has Kyivstar in Odessa---I simply enter "+" then her number (with the country code only--no 011). I assume she does the same on her end; I've never asked. T-Mobile charges me the same for SMS to Odessa as anywhere else. When I can't get a signal (like at work) there is a SMS page on the Kyivstar web page.

Just try the direct approach first--you may need only the +; or the 011; or both.
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.

Do you know fi there is a charge at the destinatiion for the girls?  I've seen some of these free SMS sites and didn't want to send sms to Ukraine if there was a charge for the girls.

In the case of UMC, the SMS is free for the girls... but like you can imagine, there is a catch...message that you can send is only 163 character... the remainning character are used for publicity... yep, you personal message is the part one of the SMS, the part two is publicity... nothing is really free in these world, in some way, it is always somebody who pay...

There wasn't when I used it, but like I said that was awhile back. You could try a short message just to test it, as things have changed in regards to phones & cell phones over here. It probably wouldn't be a whole lot in any case & much cheaper than a phone call.
Tell you what, I'm on Beeline, numbers on the website, send me an SMS & I'll let you know. ;D

Thanks Mike and everyone else who answered.

I wanted to send SMSs and receive replies, so something like ipipi is what I was looking for.  I signed up and it has been working great.  The user interface is a bit clumsy but it works.

I've even had my first girl hit me up for money via SMS.

I guess I can cross her off my list of sincere girls...  ::)  It's too bad, she was quite a hottie.

From the UK, you send a SMS anywhere in the world by pressing + then country code and the number.  So that should work fine, and you shouldn't get charged as much as making an international call!

I am in Canada  but have used my regular Gsm phone to send sms, cost is 20 cennes/sms, limit of 160 chars for latin alphabet , 70 for russian alphabet . I am using a smartphone with the interkey virtual keyboard, I recommend it.
