SMS to Ukraine: Some info and a question
« on: April 08, 2005, 05:15:37 PM »
In addition to using mobile phones, there are internet sites and e-mail methods of sending free SMS messages to people in Ukraine possessing mobile phones.

At these sites, you can send SMS to persons with that service provider.  Some allow messages to go to other providers also.

Jeans                      http ://www.jeans.com.ua/ukr/sms.php
Golden Telecom       http://sms.gt.com.ua/
UMC                         http://www.sim-sim.com/eng/sms.htm
Kyivstar                   http://www.kyivstar.net/en/sms/

At these sites, you can send SMS to persons with almost all service providers in Ukraine.

http://www.cdmaua.net/english/sms.shtml

Here, you can send SMS to many service providers around the world.

You can also send an SMS from your e-mail to a mobile phone in Ukraine using the following addresses:

38067XXXXXXX@sms.kyivstar.net

38050XXXXXXX@sms.umc.com.ua

38039XXXXXXX@sms.gt.kiev.ua

My question concerns the last part of the address needed to send an SMS to a persons with a jeans service.  For those who actually know as opposed to guessing, what is the last part?  I can guess that it is mostly

38066XXXXXXX@sms.jeans

but I don't know the rest of it.

Thanks to anyone who can provide the last link.

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at yahoo.com.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following
addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

any ideas?

Be more specific.  What number are you talking about, etc.?

This is not a free service I believe they charge $.05 per sms but you will be able to receive a reply. And you can send sms from your pc. Before you ever purchase sms they will offer you 5 free sms messages so you can try out the service. There is no guarantee the sms will reach her but I have an 80% success rate.

I sent it to 38067XXXXXXX@sms.kyivstar.net, but I started an account with them and had no problem sending an sms.

Ah, yes, there is one glitch with Kyivstar which can be overcome.

Of all the Ukrainian services, Kyivstar is the only one (that I know of) that has set the default on their SIM chips to NOT allow receipt of SMS messages.

But this setting can be changed to allow for receipt of SMS.  The procedure is for the phone owner to send a message to Kyivstar at a particular phone number.  It is 7xxx where x I can't remember.  But this number is shown in the instruction manual and it is given on the Kyivstar websites.

Once this message is sent, Kyivstar sends back some sort of signal that changes the programming of the SIM chip to allow SMS to come in.

Clyde, thanks for the additional info.  But why pay anything when the ones I show are completely free?

Bruno, very interesting.  I have sent messages to Ukrainian gals who have all of the various carriers and I have used all of the methods.  e.g.  I have sent from my e-mail, I have sent from the specific carrier sites, and I have sent from the general sites.

In all cases, they all received my messages.  And my experiences have all been within the last few weeks.

Can't explain why yours weren't received.  Surely not because of our different coutries of originating the messages.

If she has Kyivstar, note that she must change the default setting to receive SMS.

Albert,

I made my post because I tried kyivstar and I believe you can send free sms but you can't receive a response. At least I never figured it out. ipipi delivers the response to your pc like email.
