Motivation/Inspiration meets Reality Check
« on: February 19, 2007, 08:41:11 PM »
Eagles soaring, salmon fighting their way upstream, a
near-impossible putt being soundly sunk - my former
company overdecked its halls with "Motivational" posters
in gilded frames. I often found evidence of unsound business practice being qualified and/or justified in principle by these very posters, like the time when inferior-grade product was ordered
in the name of "Innovativeness", or an accusation of price-fixing
summarily dismissed under the banner of "Teamwork". That company is all but history now, and fortunately I moved on well before its self-demise.

Today, a mechanic repairing the electric window carriage on my stepdaughter's vehicle offered me a catalog of "Demotivator" Posters from despair.com, just to help me pass the waiting time - and several I found to be very refreshing, despite their humorous intent. To be honest, some instantly brought certain RWD threads to mind, and so I'll attach a few for your disapproval, amusement - or whatever. The whole batch can be viewed on the aforementioned site.

I need to save these. They are funny. :)

I believe that there is a direct correlation between the amount of "Motivational Posters" and the unethical practices of the business. The Fed had them everywhere and I've never worked at a more politically motivated, backstabbing, unethical place.  :o

Haven't seen one of those things in my current job, and amazingly enough they really want to get the job done right. Wow! What a concept. Of course as in any large company there are office politics but nothing like what I was tortured with at the Fed.

I had a little saying up in my cube in Fedland that said: "Stupidity got us into this mess why can't it get us out?" Needless to say it was rather frowned upon by the powers that be...

Good stuff Vaw-gun!

http://despair.com/ambition.html  Another good one.

I have this site bookmarked--it is amazing how many of these come to mind after a meeting with Senior manegemnet and/or the Engineering Dept. ;D
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.
