Mir Thats a fence sitting argument and frankly, you don't need to be too clever to figure out who is trying to fit in and who is yanking the chain.

JB  The WOG term here was exclusively for the Greeks in the first instance and thanks for enlightenment, I had no idea where it came from and God only knows how we ended up applying it to the Greeks.  BTW Italians were "Dagos" dunno how we came up with that either.

Kuna Your walking the middle ground here and ultimately that won't exist.  I understand better than most, the post war European migration (Greeks, Italians and others) but the fundamental difference between those guys and these current crop of towel heads is that the Italians and Greeks made every effort to fit in and make good.  The achieved that with interest and by and large are honorable members of society now.

It was the Italians who lifted our hospitality industry out of second class milk bars.  It was the Greeks who taught us to market seafood and produce in an effective manner.  Bottom line is they didn't try to uproot the basic fundamentals.  They ADDED to our culture.  My hat off to them for that.  Those who want to change the fundamentals can piss off back to the sh!teholes the phrigged up before they came here.

As for Pauline Pantsdown, she was only a puppet and a fool at that, but the statement that exploded all over the media and was never let go of was her line in her maiden speech to parliment.  "They don't assimilate" and she was spot on, they don't.

That is where the Greeks, Italians, Polls, Germans, Russians and some Asians stand head and shoulders above this current lot of towel heads.  The did and continue to assimilate very nicely.  They repected our LAWS and tactfully added some of their culture and history to ours.  That IMHO is what is called progress.

As for our Navy having a bit of target practice on a few fishing boats out of Indonesia loaded with Mid East runaways, (And please don't deny they did when those two boats went down) my view is what the hell.  We didn't want them anyway and the ammo would have only been fired at blank targets so no waste and Australias gain.  Tough call I know, but it's gotta be made for the long term wellbeing of the country.

I hunted another one the other day who wanted a job.  He turns up with a table cloth (Whatever they call it) around his head and I told him to get it off first.  He starts raving on with some sh!te and I said, it ain't company uniform, get rid of it and then you can start, the choice is yours sunshine not mine.

As for the PM sending the SAS boys out to put a stop to that lot on the Tampa, sure it could have been handled better at a political level, but the boys did a great job and sent a very clear signal to the rest of the wannabees.  Certainly stopped the succession of boats trying to get down here.

If you want in here, come in by the front gate.  We'll welcome anyone who wants to FIT IN.

They sure don't like it when I refuse to speak to them, like at a government office or bank, & demand to speak to a Canadian. Then they say with a thick Paki accent, "I am Canadian Sir". The he!! you are, I want a white Canadian that speaks English not some raghead that got his job because some pussy invented Affirmative Action for the socially inept!!! Don't know why, but they really get upset when I say that.

I/O

Read the above and tell me how you will figure out that the person with a thick Paki accent was not trying to fit in?

Perhaps you did not realize that I was responding to the above post by R?

Mir I understood clearly where you were going with the question.  Like I said, eyeball them and you pretty quick work out which ones are trying genuinely to make good and fit in as opposed to those who are arrogant SOB's and just yanking the chain.

I've got about 50 of them working for me and 50% are great people and the other 50% won't last the distance because they were just smart enough to get here, but not smart enough to realise they will need to get a lot smarter to survive.

The Italians, Greeks and others were and are smart enough to realise what is need to survive.  Anyone who tries will have my respect no matter how poor their language skills are in the first instance.

Spot on I/O & I concurr. I ain't no idiot.
When I see a so called RCMP officer whereing a towel on his head I gotta say I ain't impressed & he could have perfect English for all I care. They changed our Arrmed Forces Uniforms & the Traditional RCMP uniforms an over 100 year old tradition, just to please a few ragtops. Sorry but I sure as hell wouldn't have.
There's those who want to fit in & those that don't & those that don't can kiss my skinny white a$$ on there way out!
Anybody with any sense at all can figure out which ones is which two minutes after talkin' to 'em, & thats about all it takes for me to decide I ain't gonna deal with it.
Hey, my Cardioligist back home is East Indian, but at least he is trying to get on & doesn't have the attitude those with the turbins got & actually I think he was a dang good doctor, accent & all I never had a problem with him.
Its the ones that don't want to fit in & want everything to change for them that piss me off & like I said 2 minutes of talkin' to 'em & it ain't hard to sort 'em out.

Guys,

There is to be no disparaging or maligning of ethnic or religious groups - and certainly not in the name of "humor."

Please bring this back from the brink.

Thanks,

- Dan

Dago was a derogatory term used by the British for Spanish,Portuguese and Italians.
It is thought to derive from the bastardization of the Spanish name "Diego."

Dan,

Are you confortable with the job of being the "Word Police"?

For example:

The New York City Council recently passed a resolution banning the use of the word “nigger.” The resolution, of course, is entirely symbolic, since trying to control language by fiat is like King Canute trying to stop the tide. Language isn’t legislated, but grows and changes organically through the people who speak it. That’s why the grammar police always fight a losing battle.

More interesting is what this preening display of self-righteousness says about our culture of eternal childhood. The larger pathology such hypersensitivity reflects is a narcissistic obsession with individual feelings more typical of children. Like a child, we think that freedom from hurt feelings is a human right. We think we are entitled to live our lives without ever encountering any word or deed that does not confirm our estimation of ourselves as wonderful, important creatures. We think that the whole world is obligated to monitor its behavior to make sure that we never feel bad.

I don't think any of us here gives a snit (misspelled on purpose) if some 'body' gets his feelings hurt.  In fact I have a huge problem with that notion.  I got my feelings hurt on 9-11-01 and not a single person apologised to me, in fact I saw news footage of the persons dancing in the streets celebrating the events of 9-11-01 and the UN didn't pass any resolutions against it.  The world body politic seems to move on to business as usual before the ashes even cooled.  My feelings are hurt,,, who is going to address my unhappiness at the way the world is treating my sensitivities?

And people wonder why G.W. Bush did what he did...

RWD is *NOT* the place to air ethnic bigotry or political issues NOT related to the subject of Russian Women.

Yeah John, I am comfortable keeping the board RID of ethnic and racial slurs. Absolutely.

Soon as I finish here, I'll go into your message to clean up the crap you KNOW is over the line.

Dan:  Your point is well enough taken and I think NOBODY here is genuinely racist as such.  I am probably guilty of leading this thread to the edge, but I, like everyone else here on RWD, JB included stands on our record of NOT being racist because we ARE in one form or another attached to a Lady from another country.

The point out of all of this could be summarised by saying that Au similar to USA is a multi racial nation built very strongly on the back of immigration, but both countries are NOT multi cultural.  USA has a proud American culture and Au has it's Aussie culture.  Whatever race you originate from, you ARE most welcome in, with the simple provision of "Fit in or -------off".

I touched on the Russian relevance here some time ago in so far is this is one of the admirable traits of Russian women, from my small experience, notwithstanding the struggle they all have in leaving their home country, they DO adapt, the DO fit in, they DO repect the laws, they DO make HONORABLE  members of our societies and they can be collectively proud of their ability to do so. They have my respect for this among many other reasons, because to be frank, I am not sure I could do the same if the situation was reversed.

This is one of those things that is like a snowball rolling downhill. Always starts out small and insignificant but before you know it has become bigger than your house. It's easy to jump on the bandwagon as we all have issues that we could include here.

We've shown a LOT of class on a LOT of subjects over the years here but we really need to remember what we are here for and what is just not a subject of discussion for this board.

FWIW,

Yeah always been quite partial to Red heads myself, but spent 10 years married to a Brunette and am about to marry a Blond.  Maybe I am just dancing all around the real prize? :-\ :-\

Anyway shifting the racism/preferences thing.  The below came across my radar today and I would have thought it a multi racial, multi colour acceptable means of social conveyance. Any opinions?
