She has received all my documents and the Packet3 and is scheduling her medical exam for next week. I was told in her letter that Kiev is scheduling interviews for June she does not have the exact date but her case number is the same as I was given by the NVC so it looks like everything is under control. I will know more when I speak to her on Saturday.

Thank you.

For some reason I have this idea that she needs constant help because she does not speak very good English.

Now I am thinking just the opposite. She is extremely organized because I saw this when we were together. I'm sure she can handle most of this on her own.

At least she now has more than enough documents thanks to me and my 2 pound parcel of papers.

Guys, wait a minute....

You guys are sounding like the visa is being issued to you.  Nothing could be farther from the truth.  The U.S. State Department is going to issue a visa to a foreign national, that person must be a stand up individual or they won't do the visa. Period~!

About the only reason you are involved in the paperwork at all is to; a) Prove there is a valid reason to consider granting a visa to the foreign national in the first place. And, b) Prove that the foreign national won't be coming to live under a bridge in a cardboard box and eating out of a garbage can.  Beyond that, you can't help her pass the interview, nor should you want to.  You want to marry a good woman, therefore you should allow the State Department to do their job.  If you have submited all the required documentation to get the I-129F through the approval stage that's the end of your duties, let her stand or fall on her own.

As cold and cruel as that may sound you guys don't know these women very well.  A denied visa may be a blessing in disguise.

Well jb, I see your point but isn't that along the same lines as being a one week wonder.   These guys are making a decision that can affect the rest of your life but not in a week, they are doing it in 5 minutes.    I think you owe it to her to help her and make it as easy as possible.

There is nothing wrong with making sure she has the proper paperwork, making sure she has the knowlege of you to answer any questions they can ask.   You are always learning about someone.  I just found out yesterday my gal plays tennis.   One of the things I was going to teach her was to play tennis so I am still learning too.

Sure, if you are faking a police report or doctoring her medical exam you and she both deserve to be in trouble.    These gals give up a lot to come here.  I think some support on both sides is the way it should be.

SOC,

I got reply back from embassy today. If you send downloadable version of KEV-1 to them via email, signature is not required. That is because a scanned signature is not valid anyway. That is why they have no signature line on form. So you can send it for her if you wish.

No, they are not.  They are following approved procedures.  They've been in this business for quite a long time and know what they are about.  The BCIS and the State Dept are often at cross purposes, but it's called "checks and balances", but they are not doing this to piss you off.

I don't doubt that your g/f will sail through the process without any trouble, but she has to do it on her own merit.  You shouldn't try to carry her any more than necessary.

Some totally unqualified advice: (we didn't have to go through interviews)

Don't make her paranoid with 'what if' brainstorming and study sessions.. Just tell her to be herself and not be too nervous.. Everythings on the up and up so there's nothing to hide or worry about. It's not final exams.

I used to do a lot of employment evaluations.. 95% of the time I didn't really listen to the answers to my questions as I already knew most from their application.. I simply tried to get a 'feel' for what kind of person they were.

I definately would not want to make her paranoid.   When I visit her in a few days, I am taking along some print outs of comments a few interviewee's have made that make is sound easy so that she will be relaxed a bit and a list of the possible questions so if there is something she does not know, she can ask in advance.

I have some lists that cover perhaps 30 possible questions.  Most are pretty straightforward, like how did you meet.  Do you love him.  When did you see him last, how many times has he visited you.    If she can't answer those she should stay there.   They do ask some questions like how old are his children.  (I hope they don't ask that one.  My kids are older than she is.  LOL   I think if she knows what they may ask and can ask me in advace anything there is nothing wrong with that.

I have done thousands of interviews and agree with you.  I go for the feel of the person.   People say what they think you want to hear.

BC,

I agree with you. The less stressed she is the better. I told her she will be fine at interview and just be herself. I'm not going to go over any possible questions, as they are simple anyway. Plus you could go over all possible questions, and then they ask something that isnt on the "list". I have known my fiancee for 2 years now, she probably knows more about me than me.

This is absolutely true, it is far better she appear sincere, than contrived.  Nothing will raise the red flag quicker than someone attempting to pull the wool over on a skilled interviewer's eyes as he is asking the basic questions, he makes his living interviewing visa applicants, they have  already seen it all.  Your g/f will just be another footnote in their daily life if she does it correctly.

Don't coach her too much.  Let the chips fall where they lay.

Congrat's SOC!

Do your best to help your lady prepare and then let the chips fall where they may.  It is very important to tell the truth about everything.  When my wife went through her interview in Kiev, they asked her if she had any relatives living in the USA.  She did and answered "yes".  They do their homework and are prepared, so give honest answers and it will all be okay:D
When in doubt, run!!!!!!!

Great advice, Frank.  That was exactly what I was going to post, until I saw you had beat me to it at the bottom of the page.  :D

By the time the interview comes along, the various gov't agencies have pretty much decided if they will issue the visa or not.  The interview is the opportunity for them to see if all things really jive, compared with the person sitting across from them.  If the applicant seems reasonable and honest, there is really no reason the visa wouldn't be approved.

I sent her the paperwork in case something might be missing at the interview.

She has read the packet 3 and knows what is required from her.

SOC,

Congratualations!!. I'm sure she'll be fine at the interview. As others have posted, just let her be herself. The interviewers are experienced and will know if something is right or wrong.  I'm sure they have many applicants in a day so time is limited to spend with each applicant. BTW, for those of you that have been there or talked to your wife, how many women actually appear each day for an interview?

Also SOC thanks again for all the info you sent me. I forwarded it(thats a mouthfull),  to my gal and she translated it to russian so she could read it all and it worked fine.

I don't know about Ukraine, but the Embassy in Moscow has in the past scheduled about 25-28 interviews per day, 4 days per week, so they were running roughly 100+ people a week through the visa process during the time my wife was interviewed. This number is not just K-Class visas, but includes all visa applicants.  That seems to still be a pretty good number however.

The actual schedule can be see here:

http://moscow.usembassy.gov/consular/wwwhcisk.html

The U.S. Embassy's website for Kyiv is arraigned somewhat differently so I can't show a interview schedule for that site.  It may be there, but you'll have to dig for it.

I wouldn't get too bent out of shape about the interview.  Kate's interview last week went something like this:

-Swearing in...

-One or two general information questions

-Do you have any questions that I can answer for you? (I asked one or two questions).

I wish you both the best; you may pick up your visa after 3 p.m..

Total elapsed time 3-5 minutes...

Probably, my being there helped a bit, but I just don't think that the interview hurdle is much of a hurdle unless they are suspicious for some reason.

Todd,

I can't be there at her interview because of my job and she has insisted she can handle it on her own.

Sounds like she will be fine.

I have a girl who is constantly trying to save me money.

I gave her money for ther medical exams back in February and she has been saving it since then.
