Extremism : Where is the humanity of people
« on: March 23, 2007, 12:13:11 PM »
I have just see the news from today and i was really shocked...

People speak of extremism... example are numerous :
- religious terrorism ( 9/11 )
- anti-mondialism terrorism ( bomb in Mc Donald )
- feminism terrorism ( IMBRA and other thing who lead women to control destiny of men )
- ecolo terrorism ( destruction of vegetable field who are genetic modified )

and from the news of today :

- animal protection terrorism

Now, animal protection association wish kill a animal !!!

But before all, allow me to present you "Knut", a bear who is born in December in a German zoo... his mother have refuse to take care of him... so, a gardian of the zoo have replace the mother... very cute bear :

Now, the problem is that some association for animal protection wish give a lethal injection to Knut... yes, they wish kill him... the reason is simple : "Knut need to die because one day, he will be a adult bear and a predator... He will be unhappy since he was not grow up by other bear but by human"

What for a world we have now... where people use good idea for bad thing... Yes, i know, not really related to RW but we are in the "odds and Ends" section... i have simply share my feeling... i am ashamed to be a human when i see the logic of some people...

Many of us have wished for a very long time that there would be a "hunting season" on idiots. This is just another example of some extreme point of view that should have been put down to begin with. If you look around you then every day will be a day where you are ashamed to be human.

My neighbor has a pit bull. Gentlest dog I have ever seen, the pit bull (about 65 pounds) is afraid of our Shih Tzu, and our dog weighs 15 pounds. The pit bull was trained to be gentle and not to fight. I am wondering if a bear trained by humans will revert to the natural instinct to be a predator if he is not trained in this manner. Who knows what is natural instinct and what is training by the parent? Since we do not speak bear language we will never know.

RVR do you remember the flying W from the old westerns?
I don't have time to look it up but I seem to remember they planted invisible ropes to purposely trip the horses often leading to broken legs and the horses being destroyed.

Can't say as I recall offhand. But I do know for many years they had a bounty on wild horses in Alberta and they were hunted until there were very few left. Now they are protected & kept to the national & provincial parks.
By the way the ranch I grew up on was called the Flying W & our brand was a W with wings. My mother still has the branding iron even though she sold off the last of the place 2 years ago.

What I know of bears

Black bears are unpredictable even when they are raised by people. They can suddenly turn. They are like raccoons and skunks in that way. Suddenly they just up and bite. Only with a black bear it can become a deadly mauling.

Grizzly/Brown bears are known to be docile when raised by people. They have intellegence like a dog and have similar affection towards people if they are raised by them. Look at the late Bart the bear.

Unlike Grizzly bears Polar bears will track a man down over great distances to kill and eat him. I have heard a number of stories of people tangling with polar bears at zoos and most of the stories end with their fatalities. There seems to be no in-born affection for people with them. They are killing and eating machines like sharks. Very dangerous. But I see no reason that the above bear should be put down.

Bruno,

The reason that animal enthusiasts wish for this bear to be put down is because he was abandoned by his mother.  That almost always indicates something is wrong with the baby, something that we can not determine.

I have seen this with sheep.  A ewe will abandon a lamb.  We keep the lamb, curse the ewe, and a year later the lamb dies for unknown reasons - nature at work.

OTOH, polar bears will be a threatened and disappearing species as global warming (which is real, believe it or not), diminishes their habitat.  We need to keep specimens because fewer will be living in the future.

Why ?

It can be the influence of the "habitat"... it is a zoo, not the wild nature... it happen often that in captivity, some animals have difficult to reproduce, have difficult to take care of child, etc...

Maybe it is the mother too... not a usual life for a female bear : "he was rejected by his mother, a 20-year-old former performing bear from East Germany"...

She was probably declawed, defanged and wearing a muzzle with a electic shock collar and a guy with a high powered rife just out of sight. And she still she couldn't control herself and lost her job....
