BeenThereDone, congratulations to the two of you.....I agree that one's salary should not be a deal breaker for a chance to meet someone special from FSU.....I for one am not close to making a 6-figure salary but, I am happy with my self.... and now if I could just figure out how I am going to pay for Anna and I's wedding

Do you have really your own house ? A house is only yours when you have fully pay back the bank !!!

Let me interject something.. you never really "own" your home.  Mine is completely paid off. I owe the bank nothing.  However, let me miss a few payments of "government rent" and I'll find out quickly who actually owns the home.  I pay a yearly fee for the privilege of free usage and modification, the ability to leverage, to gain from value increases or lose from declines, or to sell my use privilege to another. However, if I don't make my annual payments to Uncle Sam, I'll be out on the street in a hurry.  Call it a tax, call it rent.  No matter the name, the end result of non payment is identical.

Hello all, just been reading this interesting thread.
My background: I am 34, been to Ukraine twice. Went thru a K1 and ended up sending her back. Just got back from a trip to Lviv. First trip, WOVO which I feel is not the way to go as my 2nd trip felt much more "productive" WMVM

Noyrt, you and I are pretty similar. Although, I wish I could make longer trips as you have. 2 weeks isn't enough time...lol I understand about the multiple trips and the money invested. I can relate.  As for my past relationships, I have gone thru some crap. I have been hurt bigtime and I will tell you, this is a major reason why I decide to start seeking ladies abroad.  I struggle too financially but can see the debt disappear and salary increase in the next few years.
EDIT: Just sent you a pm. Didn't know you were in GA! So am I....

deden, some very good points you posted; things to think about.

wiz, also some great points you mentioned!

The important thing is that you talk to them and you are honest with them and explain everything so they are aware of your circumstances.
So true! I learned this from my first K1 which ended up in the girl going back.
When beginning my 2nd adventure, I began discussing my finances, lifestyle, etc earlier in my correspondence.

Your major problem is to find the right woman for you, who you can trust, respect, be honest and exclusive to each other and avoid those with ulterior motives.

Yep, you can pay off the mortgage, but then you have taxes; taxes for schools, taxes for the hospital district; and taxes just because someone wants your money!

So, if you pay off your $300,000 home, you still have to pay over a grand a month for taxes and insurance!

That's why I think Tiger Paws has it right....sell the frigging house and buy a boat....and sail away!!!   ;D  LOL

Here's the other option:  We own our apartment and other properties free and clear in Ukraine.  There are no property taxes here, only if we sell it.  We do pay about $12 a year on some property we own near the coast, but that's more of an association fee for everyone who has parcels in an area that they privatized.
