There have been several inquiries in the past as to where one can go to learn Russian.
I recently came across a list of schools in Moscow & thought I would put them on the site for you to browse. I will include as much information as I can about each one & you can look them over at your leisure & decide which is best for you.
The contact info is included so you can phone or email your inquiries directly to them.

The Moscow Times also has a page of links for Study in Russia programs:

http://www.themoscowtimes.com/travel/whilehere/study.html

It seems that most of the programs are geared towards young college-age students and anyone over 30 might feel out of place.  The best option for me right now is to meet with a Russian tutor once a week and work through a textbook.  You can find local tutors in your area on Craigslist or through this web site:

Some time back, I spent several weeks at this program in Moscow studying Russian:

http://www.ruslanguage.ru/

The school was obviously being run on a tight budget.  Most of the students were being taught using photocopied materials instead of textbooks.  However, I learned a lot of Russian and I will never forget my time there.

However, it took place at the university and I met some interesting people.  I lived in the dorms with the other Russian students.  I was a little out of place but there were some other foreign students doing the same, and most of them were older than me.

We have to do the same at the school I teach at or the students have to buy their own textbooks. Kinda ticks me off because I'll be danged if I'm gonna spend my hard earned money to buy textbooks, so I have to work from photo copies. I snuck the book home once & they feaked all over me for that.
AND the school I teach at is AMERICAN owned!!! ::)

I went to the same school as TwoBitBandit for a month a couple years back. Because I already knew Russian pretty well, I opted for one-on-one tutoring. The alternating teachers would bring me newspapers to read for homework and we would go through the articles. Also, I bought some smallish Russian for foreigners readers that we discussed. No photocopies! I had a good time there too and met a bunch of good folks, though I lived off campus. They offer trips out of Moscow, so one time we went up to Piter for several days. I would recommend them.

This may be dumb question, but do they allow you to make copies of copyrighted materials to use is a business in Russia? I'm not trying to create a stir, but was just curious, since the US is giving Russia a hard time about joining the WTO because of copyrighted music and movies.

So True!!
Not only that but if the books arn't from the US, the US ain't got no say in it. All our text books or at least the ones I have used so far are fom Britain.

Heh, all the intermediate-to-advanced Russian grammar books I have studied from are also from Britain.  Occasionally I'll come across some word written in the Queen's English in these books that makes me scratch my head...

Here's a question for you Richard.... probably the most naive one you've ever heard... if I wanted to study language at a school like this, is there a way to check the background, validity, something like an accreditation?  Or is there simply nothing like that at all within Russia?

Sorry Dave, I missed this somehow but will attempt to answer now.
Not really sure how you would check the accreditation of the school other than to speak to former students or clients. I know that several of them require that the teachers hold certificates in TESL or TOFL or some other course or an actual teaching degree. This is mostly because they can charge their clients more money for the service the more educated the teacher is, not due to any laws in Russia.
For the Russian learners I am not sure what the requirements are. I do know that where I teach we have a couple of actual Russian teachers that teach at regular schools as well as at our facility. They are accredited teachers from Russian Universities.
