Wheels Up
« on: May 06, 2006, 07:50:07 AM »
Well, its wheels up for me on Monday morning.  I touchdown in Kiev on Tuesday afternoon and have dates lined up with Tatyana and Irina before moving on to Kharkov, Lugansk, Dnepropetrosvk, Zap, Kherson and Odessa.  All the women in my chosen demographic are in their 40s with either grown or no children.  Being in their 40s will distance us anywhere between 12 and 19 years.  (With my late AW we had 14 yrs between us and it worked well.)  I plan to meet with these two ladies in Kiev right away so if there is chemistry I can see them again when I circle back into Kiev.  I have been corresponding with Tatyana for a few months, but Irina will be somewhat of a blind date.  We've seen each other's pic's but no emails.  I'm sure at least we'll have a nice dinner together somewhere in beautiful downtown Kiev.  I've been corresponding with women in the other cities as well, but the Kiev ladies are the ones with whom I have higher hopes, but we'll see; the devil is in the details.  Right?

I'm taking my laptop and hope to hook up somehow to the internet, but I don't quite know how to do it there.  Any advice is welcome.  I've heard I can buy dialup service using something like a calling card, and then hook into my apartment phone.  Can anyone advise on that?  Where to buy?  If successful, I should be able to send interim trip reports, and hopefully, pics.

I'm going to call Roberto when I'm in Kiev.  If there is anyone else on RWD that lives in my target cities, it would be my pleasure to meet you.  Just let me know how to contact you and we can have a beer together.

Jim,

Try to get a Lucky.net internet card: they have by far the best dial-up ISP in Kiev. They sell weekly and monthly access. They are not the cheapest by a long shot, but you want to get online and stay online; the other cards are rather problematic in that regard. Expect access to be slow by U.S. standards, around 46 to 52k on average.

I have Volia cable internet but it's $100+ monthly and it's metered.

Look forward to speaking with you!
