Life After Death?
« on: October 09, 2005, 01:37:09 PM »
Unusually serious for me, but has anyone any experience of Spirits, Ghosts, or Phantoms?

I've had a few quite boring 'makes you wonder' type events but I always love hearing any stories anyone has. Real ones not fantasies.

Spirits active tonight, anyone here called.....John?

How about we tie it all together and ask about any interesting Halloween stories involving ghost, spirits, etc. in the FSU?

I know one friend of my wife is just about as superstitious as is humanly possible - but I don't know if she has any basis for it.

One of my favorite Russian authors Nikolai Gogol has written some excellent stories dealing with the supernatural.  Most of these take place in what he calls "Little Russia", more commonly known as Ukraine of course.  Try "Vih" or a "Bewitched Place" to name a couple.  I have got to believe that some of these stories influenced Lovecraft.

There is a two volume soft cover set entitled "The Complete Tales of Nikolai Gogol" published by the University of Chicago Press that is currently in print.

I was at my parents house in New england. It was a clear and windless night. I walked with a friend of mine who was ending his visit. We strolled down the long driveway, toward the light post near the small country road. Across the street and down a sloping lawn, was his parents' house. Phil's parents were away for the week, on vacation. It was early September in 1976. Fall was in the air.

We now stood at the end of my driveway, about to say our goodbyes. Something strange caught my eye in the direction of  Phil's house. It was now after dark and Phil had not been in his parent's house to turn on any lights. The only light in the area was the post light at the end of the driveway. There was his house with its vacant front lawn, and in the distance, huge partially-lit oak trees.

We both glanced over toward his house. We saw a tall black figure that moved very smoothly across his lawn, from right to our left. It was stunning. It was larger than a typical person, maybe 7 feet tall. It was a shadowy silhouette. We could not see through it, to the house below. As it moved, it maintained a straight line of movement, meaning its 'head' did not bob up and down as it 'walked' like a human normally does. It seemed to float along the ground.

After about ten or fifteen seconds it disappeared into the darkeness to our left. The hair on my nexk stood up. Chilling. Nervousness.

I now turned to Phil and asked him if he saw 'that'.

He looked at me with the oddest expresssion. His eyes were watery. He looked upset. He did not answer, so I asked him again. He wasn't sure what to say, and he asked me if I wanted to go with him into his vacant house below. I then told him what I had just seen (and I KNEW that he also had seen 'it'.) I told him that I was sorry, but I would not go down there into his house. (towards the 'thing') At this point I was angry about his refusal to talk about our sighting.

We parted. He went down the hill and I went back up the hill to my parent's house. I walked quickly.

The only light that could have cast a shadowy figure, was only about 50 feet from us. There was no human figure in the area that we could see, or could have cast that opaque 'shadow'. The 'shadow' was not affected or altered by any of the surrounding terrain behind it. The memory still gives me the creeps.

I've got a story to tell, but it is not about ghosts or spirits but about spooky dreams I have sometimes.

It started when I was about four years old. Me and my mum were staying at my grandma's house while my dad was in Europe on business trip. In the middle of the night I woke the whole house up by screaming in my sleep. I had a dream that my dad was being buried alive and I kept screaming: he can't breath, he can't breath! The next day we found out that my dad fell ill the night before and was taken to the hospital with fever and breathing difficulties.....

Dreams like this one happened to me several times, especially when Im separated from my family, that's why they became more frequent since I moved to the UK. I had a dream about my grandma breaking her arm, which happened on the same day. The most recent and the most horrid dream I had: I am mopping up a big puddle of blood off the floor with my bare hands. I ask: 'who's blood is it?' and someone answeres: 'your mothers.' I woke up in tears and covered in cold sweat. I immediately phoned my parents. My dad answered the phone and when I asked him whether my mum was ok, he said: 'how do you know? she cut herself badly yesterday and it was an awful amount of blood.'

My parents love telling about my 'unusual abilities' but I'd rather not to have them. It freaks me out.

I get a visit from a phantom every two weeks. It's my paycheck!

MandM my grandmother on my mother's side would see a coffin in her dreams but couldn't make out who was in it. Soon there after they would get a telegram or other notice (back in the 30's-40's) telling them that a family member died. Things my mother told me.

My other grandmother had something similar in regards to premonitions. Things my  father told me.

The wierdest thing that happened to me was in a restuarant. I had run out of Coke Cola and what I was eating was spicy. I was irritated that the waitress didn't notice my empty glass at the edge of the table. She was about 30 feet away from me and had her back towards me. There was no mirror in front of her or anything reflective. She was working at a counter. I looked at her really hard and was thinking "Hey turned around and get me my Coke!" "Come on") What happened next was really strange. She jolted and looked around as if someone spoke to her loudly behind her back. She scanned the room and noticed me and held up one figure as if to say "I understand".

When she came to table with the Coke I said to her "You looked like you heard me think" and she said "I have ESP and I heard someone trying to contact me" She was from Venus, Italy so perhaps it has something to do with foreign women? Anyway after that I have no doubt there is more to us and our life than electical impulses going through our nervous system. There is a spirit also.

Nadia and I called at the village of Haworth last night in West Yorkshire, where (two of) the Bronte Sisters are buried.

Nadia had us walking around the Church Graveyard and 23:00 (it has some touristy floodlighting) and guess what we saw?

Absolutley bugger all.

After my father died in 2001 I went on a Spiritual journey to found out if my fathers existence was obliterated totally into oblivion, or whether his soul survived.

I visited the local Spiritualist Church in Dumfries, Scotland where I lived at the time and everytime the medium gave me messages, some folks where there week in and week out and never got anything. Anyway, nothing sensational happened but the mediums did say:

1. Do your lights flicker sometimes, it's spirits!? Any they used to! Only the two wall lamps in the living room, but they used to do it! How would anyone know?

2. Does 8th March mean anything to you? Of coure I said no, wracked my brains, thinking it was my businesses year end? No that was 31st March, couldn't think. On the way home to my eternal shame I realised that was the date my father died, how the hell did I forget that? I didn't know nadia then but her birthday is 8th March too, and of course International Womens Day, strange day for us now....

3. One medium said I would be 'called' into mediumship, not now, but it will happen. I'd like it to but nothing yet! Whilst I am very sceptical I really cannot believe all this wonderful shitty marvellous murderous World is here so we die and lose it.

On a lighter note, my mates Gran whom he lived with claimed to be clairvoyant, one time we where waiting to go out and called a taxi. 10 mins later we heared the peep of a car horn and Mick's Gran said 'Your taxi's here!' We went outside and it wasn't! Just a neighbours car! She was rubbish!

My brother went to a clairvoyant after my fathers death and again recently and was told many spooky things. It's possible she could have researched all the info but why? For 15 quid? Would have taken days to collect all the info.

This picture claims to be of a real ghost although I can't see it. I think you have to stare and analyse the pic for a while and apparently some folks can see an image of ghost...
