I had a look at the original link. Interesting stuff there. What are your impressions of the ritual? Offline is fine if you wish. Would like to know more about the celebration and the background.

The handfasting specifically, or the Midsummer rites?

The Rus were originally Swedish traders who opened routes and established market centers in what is now the FSU, then settled there for good. (must've been the women, lol) Their beliefs and folk customs are a syncretic mix of Norse and Slavic elements, but much of what I've seen via the photos and vids is readily interpretable within my own frame of reference.

We usually don't dress up quite so historically in the States, but I don't know a single heathen who wouldn't like to raise some of those carved poles here.
